Ok, I ever since I started using photoshop on and off I've been getting a little better over time. I have learned alot of new skills and finally tamed the dammned pen tool. But at most graphic forums I post on they keep telling me to learn the color wheel and my work will look a whole lot better. Now I've searched throughout the web and I found it. But I still don't understand how to "use" it. Can someone give me a brief explanation of how the wheel works? I know a stupid question but we're not all born with an artistic mind.

By learning the color wheel, I assume they mean actually learning some color theory. By utilizing the right color schemes, shades, tints, etc, etc, you can make a piece much more pleasing to the eye.

You mean that the colors that I use on a sig should be near each other on the wheel?

Yeah i'm pretty sure thats how they work. They show the colours that contrast best together. Used to use them in website design, but i find my own preference generally works a lot better. But still, for the non coloured minded they can be pretty useful.

Take for instance your current sig. You have a complementary color scheme right now. Yellow and Purple are opposite of each other on the color wheel. If I were you, I would take a look at some basic color theory. Look up color schemes such as split complementary, analogous, monochromatic, etc. See what they have to offer. Color is very powerful. Changing the colors of any sig can drastically change the feel of the piece. I like using an analogous color scheme in my work that includes the range from orange to a brownish yellow. (Analogous being a few colors all close to each other on the color wheel) This creates a "fall" type of feeling, or possibly a somber feeling if you will. Colors represent feelings, they aren't just the color of something. If you make a piece that is green, yellow, and maybe a white, you have a springish type feel. Spring = rebirth, new life, growth. If you need a good website (done in flash, and awesome) that can tell you about color, try: http://www.mariaclaudiacortes.comCheck it out!

colors across the wheel from eachother are called compliments such as red and green and yellow and purple, other schemes of colors that look good are split complimentary with is a color plus the colors the left and the right if its compliment for example blue, red-orange, and orange yellow, theres analagous with are 3 colors in a row on the color wheel, wether it be red, blue, yellow or, red, red-orange, orange, and using hues and tints in patterns is always nice, like using blue, light blue and a dark blue. it if remember any others ill post them
