`Ello everyone ...

Just a couple of questions to the PS pro`s on the Artist Corner ( I`ve seen many ppl on these forums do awesome things using ps )...

How did u get to the current PS " lvl " ? When u just started using PS , what did u do and still do or use to learn PS ?

I hope u get my point , all i know in PS is the BASICS , so i want to get to the next lvl , pls post ure opinions and suggestions... I know that ( well maybe it isnt , so correct me pls ) the best way to learn PS is practicing , but when i search for some kind of a tutorial i get confused with all of different roads in PS , like text effects , web design , photo retouching , manipulation , typography ... etc ... idk what to do >? sometimes i start doing smthing and i get to the point where its way more advanced then me and then i just quit ... I mean i dont even know how to use masks ...

i think I made myself clear now ...
hope some of u guys reply ^^ ...

Time and observation.

Just watch what your fellow artist are doing, how they do it, and see if you can incorporate your own way of going about it.

Tutorials are all fine and well but playing with the tools and understanding what each one is good for is your best bet at understanding, and ultimately bettering yourself with, the program.

Also, you're naming different forms of art( typo, manip, etc). So rather then trying to be a "jack of all trades" right off the bat try to find what it really is you want to do with Ps and look up tutorials specific to that and then venture in to other forms once you build a base for yourself learning the fundamentals.

As for the mask tool. It's just an advanced, more efficient, eraser tool. Simplest way of putting it.
When a mask is active on an image the black brush erases and the white brush restores parts of that image.

That was my answer. There is no one magical trick that helps you become "pro". It takes time and what worked for me was observing those better than me. Just watching what they put out and dissecting the work in my mind and when it came time to make something of my own I would try to incorporate my own style/version of what I learned. But to be able to do that you need to have an understanding of the program hence why I mentioned playing with the various tools and getting to know what each does. That way when you at someone elses work you can be able to tell how "X" was done. If jumping head first into a program is to difficult for you then look for a video walk through of the tools instead (probably one on youtube somewhere).

Point being, before you can learn tips and tricks you need to know your tools.

Also no one can answer for you what it is you want to do. Especially with the little information you've given us. For all we know you could be a 16 year old highschool kid with a pirated version of Ps and a pipe dream of become a digital artist.

EDIT: lol, just checked your profile and age. Scrap everything I've said in the last two post and wait for one of the other care bears to help you out. xD 8)

thx alot hostage , I think i understand what u mean ...

If you could link me to a PS tuts site , that puts its tuts separated , I mean divided by the difficulty of the tut , I would really appreciate that ...

I might be a 16 years old PS pro wannabe , but accusing ppl having a pirated PS is kinda ... idk what to say really ...

anyway, I appreciate ure replys again , and I hope other "PRO`S" reply too and give their opinion ...

EDIT : what more info do u need hostage ?

I didn't accuse you of anything. I said for all we know that could be the situation, if you wanted people to tell you in what direction you should head towards (which again should be your decision and non of us really have a say) then give us more information. What exactly is this "career" your looking into is, how you plan to go about it, Age(well that one is already answered now) etc.

I could say; "Yeah, totally get into Typography" and the career you want is more composition and manipulation. Would do you no good.

Also this is a small fan site where the majority use Ps just for sigs and small things here and there. There might be, from what I know, 3-4 of us who use it as work/study related. So if you're truly interested in going in this direction then find a bigger community with people who can give you insight on the career your interested in, what ever that is.

If you just wanna get good at Ps for the sake of saying "I'm pro". Then follow what I said earlier and get to know Photoshop, just takes time.
