I wouldn't buy HP ever. HP's laptops break right after the warranty ends, when you get them "fixed", they break again in couple weeks. Maybe they could make a good cp but they can't make laptops, so proceed with caution. xD

this...this x10000

as im typing this on a 6 year old dell that a friend let me have im staring at my broken HP Dv9700 that cost me $1500 and broke quite literally at soon as the warranty was over. It actually broke before that and the model is defective but i didn't know that so when they fix'd it the first time i thought it was fix'd for good....4 months later warranty is gone and the laptop breaks from the same problem. HP wants $400 so they can "fix" it again. There's a class action going on now to make HP pay because they screwed over thousands of people...

just...never buy HP ever

People need to stop abusing their damned computers. Trends I've noticed for laptops based on the display units (that are running 24/7 with customers doing god knows what to them) at work. HP/Sony usuallly last longest. Dell goes fastest. Toshiba is kind of in between. Acer is weird, some are like Dells and are crap, some last just as long as the HP's.

Not turning a laptop off isn't a big deal especially if they're just for display and probably aren't running anything that might cause the computer to overheat so saying that like it'll wear it down faster is misleading. You also say "god knows" but there's not much the average person can do to a display computer so its more like "everyone knows."

If your ordering used make sure there is atleast a 30day warranty. 1 year warranty is best but 30 days is a must. In 30 days you can run all kinds of tests to make sure it works alright and nothing is defective.

Also I agree with the HP thing I got a HP Pc w/ monitor for $1850 2 years ago, and it worked for about 1 year ok but after that I started having problems and soon it just crashed and it had tons of problems before the warranty ran out but they weren't problems that stopped you from using the computer. I was also no pro at buying computers back then and only got it since I thought if the price was high the item would be top class too, that was definitely not the case, wish I had just got a alienware instead. Right now that PC is just gathering dust as it is almost useless.

Why alienware? Over rated cases that don't even look all that awesome.

Because back then they made the best gaming Pc's. For $1800 I could've gotten a Alienware almost twice as good as my HP.
