From a universal point of view I think the purpose of life is to find out life's purpose. All other purposes like wanting to be the best at something etc are very temporary and insignificant in comparison.
But to answer your question about what drives us/me I think it's my dreams and aspirations. Working hard to accomplish them as well as noting the consequences of failing to acquire them is what motivates me.
Ultimately, are not all things in life temporary? Think of life as an infinite series (calculus here) with each goal and experience summing to the end (limit as n goes to infinity)... it approaches "life's purpose", in essence equaling "life's purpose". But, having reached this limit you are also at the end, life is over. The knowledge of said meaning is lost, all is lost. And calculating this as a true limit, you never really reach the sum/meaning...
Do I sound high? lmao.
