Is this Ipad 1? or 2?
If its 1 then this shit happens, Apple are bastards (no flash support for one, ¬_¬). Theres "illegal" ways around some of these, lets say certain blocks. but its more then likely you need to synch it to your itunes, first of all update itunes to the latest version

For some reason, everytime I need to handle other people's Apple devices, it always gives me hell. On top of it registering as a digital camera, his itunes keeps receiving error messages when trying to upgrade. So I tried to upgrade with another laptop (macbook) and I managed to get iTunes 10. GREAT! As soon as I plugged in iPad, it tells me I have to download 800mb worth of shit to upgrade the OS X so I can use this oversized smudgy piece of crap iPad. BLARRGGHH... so I decided to give up on that and try to aim for using his ipod touch instead...syncing movies..... DUURRRRRr all the music videos were deleted because the ones displayed in the iTunes movie sections are either no longer in the computer or were all moved to a different location. OH! and the movies (mp4 format) are not supported by iPod Touch (but apparently that's the only format that iPad uses)...WHAT THE FUCK STEVE JOBS?! And you see why people generally dislike apple? This is why I liked creative for my Music/Video player. Drag and drop/ a ton of video supports. Zen Vision M FTW.

AirVideo app or Plex app would have probably saved you hours of frustration, though Plex would be fairly limited to only playing files while connected to your network. AirVideo has the option to convert files to iDevice-friendly format if you want to take the files with you.
I'll try to address the issues:
- If the iPad isn't recognized in Windows, read this.
- It's usually a bad idea to sync files on a different iTunes because you'll most likely run into connectivity issues.
- You could have downloaded the iTunes update manually through the iTunes website and avoided the error messages.
- Recent version of Quicktime had a security vulnerability which prompted the update from OS X. iTunes uses Quicktime.
- If you're able to play the videos in iTunes, go to Advanced > Create iPod or iPhone version or Create iPad or Apple TV Version. If it doesn't play, there's probably something wrong with Quicktime or iTunes. Reinstall iTunes.
- You probably followed instructions to get the iPad into DFU mode, which would require you to connect it to iTunes to be "repaired" via firmware update. Problem is, if you weren't able to connect the iPad to iTunes in the first place, going into DFU mode wouldn't make much sense and now you basically have a $500+ paper weight. Try doing a Hard Reset again to get out of DFU mode and try the instructions I posted above. They're basic, but it's usually the basic stuff that people miss.

dont buy a apple product expecting what you payed for it... the OS is buggy and crashes (mac os) old ipods have short lifes (nano's are known to snap, minis are known to just pack in and classics are known to burn out) ipod touches run battery quickly and have a habbit of crashing apps iphone.... enough said ipad 1 - this fail product of a "larger ipod touch" with an operating system that wasnt nearly powerful enough as ment to be and other simple basic issues apple hasnt fixed.
ipad 2 - OVER 50% SLIMMER!.... and 20% more absorbant.

ipad 2 - OVER 50% SLIMMER!.... and 20% more absorbant. lol i never bought an Apple product except for my gf's ipod touch. tbh, it's an okay product. my classic 130gb ipod syncs and plays music just fine and the battery life is excellent. apple stopped giving a rat's ass about that old product so i never get bugged with "YOU NEED UPDATE NAO OR NO SYNCING FOR YOOOUU" notices. but i generally dislike them because of 1. the price, 2. they like to dick around with security settings and constant f ucking updates, 3. WTF problems all the time (not accepting valid passwords, installing wrong drivers, no way to DL drivers off the internet)
