GO DO IT!

I am done with my year in Norway and it has been a year I would not exchange for anything in the world. You are only young for a short time, enjoy it while it lasts and enjoy it to the limit!

That's all I had to say.
Peace

I'm thinking about taking a year off before university starts. I don't know, I just think it will be hard to get back to school and studies after having one whole year off.

2 years off university here, studying like crazy to get into it again... I don't see why everyone says it would be hard... if you had a full time job/obligations it would be hard I guess.

@ woutr: how did you fund your trip, parents/job/lottery(lol)? I doubt anyone would say no to a year off everything, if we had the $$ :d

If you feel like you need to take some time off, do it. Just make sure you're at least doing something other than hanging around the house watching a bunch of anime shows like an socially dysfunctional child. Find a decent job and enjoy your days off. When you get back, you will be much more inclined to study hard and work your ass off. Just make sure you enroll for next year's semester at least.

Taking an entire year off is a bit excessive. Perhaps a month, but never an entire year.

Well, taking some time off can do good.
Just be careful of falling into the trap of wasting time doing nothing.

Isn't he the guy that took a year off the internet? As opposed to school? Or am I thinking of the wrong guy? Either way I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I doubt it's the first one. Seeing as how he's never not posted on SRF for a year.

Oh well perhaps I'm confusing him with someone else. I'm sure there was someone who was doing an internet vendetta for a year and the timeline seems right. I'll have to do a bit of searching >.<

You are thinking of ofy1993, maybe 1994 not sure <.>

OT

couldn't take a year off after high school because they wouldn't offer me a scholarship if I did.

I didn't just take a year off to jerk off and watch anime ;\

This is what I did.
I paid it from the money from a premature inheritance from my grand dad. However, where there is a will there is a way. I don't think a lack of money should stop you from your year off. There's plenty of opportunities where you can combine work and travel and fun. A friend of mine I made in Norway is completely broke. He's buying a one way ticket to Australia, has a lead for a job for 2 weeks and will then just go where the wind blows him.

Anyways, my point is not to talk about technicalities. I am trying to tell you guys how valuable a year off can be. It has changed me as a person, it has changed how I think about things, how I approach things, how I stand toward other people. I can honestly say that this year has been the year where I've learned the most. More than any other school year.
Getting to know yourself is priceless.

I took a year off as well. And it turned into 2 years and I wasn't too happy about that. But then I realized it was kinda worth it because it gave me some perspective on what I really should be pursuing. I ended up changing my career goal, went back and loved it.

It's better than going to school for 4 years and finding out at the end that you're not that excited anymore about the career path you chose. A huge waste of time and money. Sometime a person just needs a break or need some time to re-assess their goals
