I'd put a decent argument to this, but it'd just be a waste of time.

Should state money support "Bad" and "Completely Ridiculous" science?

For one: "Bad" and "Completely Ridiculous" science would have to be clearly defined. Two: depends on who is defining it, some would say stem cell research falls under those, some wouldn't.

I call them as I see them. I almost never say anything less than what I mean, even if it is going to be rude.

You guys are taking what BF said too literally. I think he is referring to those ridiculous scientific studies you often hear on the news.

Sure some scientific studies leads to dead ends, but many provide invaluable information or new methods that can be applied to real life. Some ventures lead to useful discoveries on accident (see x-ray for example).

The thread question ask "Is Science Necessary?".. That's pretty cut and dry to me. It didn't ask if some scientific pursuits or some branches of science were necessary.

Lets just go back to the days of sacrificing our enemies to the Sun God so the sun keeps on moving. Things were so much better back in those days.

Most of those ancient cultures had a form of science regardless of their wonky believes of the evil Sun God.
