Don't you mean "stoked" .Ex? But that's besides the point.

I'm biased towards it. Even though Jackson did a great job with the movies, they're still nowhere as good as the books and I assume The Hobbit will leave me with the same feeling.

Mmm looks like they're doing it in 2 parts. I guess Jackson doesn't want to cut as much as he did in LOTR.

The books were way too long and drawn out, IMHO. I liked the movies better. /flameshield

I am looking forward to this though.

I have the e-books for LOTR and The Hobbit in my nook but never got around to reading them (although I intend to one day). I went though His Dark Materials series first and currently on Wheel of Time books - and a few other novels in between. :)

Do me a favour and get rid of His Dark Materials. It's one of the most horrible fantasy series I ever read.

If you haven't gotten A Song of Ice and Fire yet, go get that shizz.

I was intrigued when I found out that His Dark Materials was an antithesis to The Chronicles of Narnia's religious tone. Bought all three books and couldn't get pass the second, or maybe the third? It's been collecting dust in my shelf for years now - unfinished.

@Izaach: I have it downloaded. I intend to read through the series - maybe after I'm done with the current WOT books.

@takolin: There are certain things (okay, huge points) that annoyed (and confused) me about the series which were mostly in The Amber Spyglass; I certainly believe that he could have done a greater job and the third book did not do the first two any justice. However, I still generally enjoyed reading Pullman's books not because of its message and the controversy behind it, but because it is a nicely written fantasy-adventure series that appeals in different ways to children and adult readers.

Should be a good movie....It was my favorite Tolkien tale. I can't say i'm not bitter about how much Peter Jackson is supporting 3D. It's like it was in the 90s...gimmicky little things pop out of the screen every now and then and people eat it up. The concept art is even being drawn in 3D.

As long as they still have 2D releases, it's all good. I've only seen 2 movies in 3D (just to make sure I'm not biased since the first one was a Shyamalan movie) and I hated every minute of it. Gaaah! 3D kills real cinematography since most film-makers nowadays seem to be more focused on how much part of the movie can be effective in 3D rather than how to really capture the movie. Then again, most people do feed on dumb shit like that so I guess they go where the money is.

Definitely going to watch it!
The LOTR moves have one of the most amazing stories and it's just all in all very well made. Can't wait to see this one :)

The style of writing in HDM wasn't great....but the theme overall was pretty impressive. I loved the series (granted I read them in like, 7th grade) but the movie they released made me want to punch a sheep.

Im still mustering up the energy to read JRR Martin's series...my gf has been pestering me about it since they announced the series. Its her favorite book series.

Want us to explain the story of LotR or just the Hobbit? Either way, it's way too rich to be able to paraphrase it.

It's a fairly short read. I got a small paperback version of a mere 300 pages. It's a lot lighter than lets say the Lord of the Rings itself.
