I know there are a couple other devices out there, but I figure these are the main three. All are up for preorder and will be releasing soon. So do you guys have any interest in any of these, and which do you prefer. It seems OUYA(Oh Yeah?) has quite the cult following.

OUYA:($99)

-Ouya is pushing limits and looking upend traditional console gaming by creating a console that is completely open for gamers to open up and tinker with. Every Ouya also comes with creation tools for would-be game creators. Sporting a NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage space (upgradeable via USB) and full 1080p HD, Ouya has some decent specs for a low cost console. Initially, the thought of playing Final Fantasy III on the big screen drew me towards Ouya but as I researched it, I found more and more reasons to get excited.

GamePop:($129[Free console until end of June]w/6.99sub)

A new addition to the ever-growing lineup of android consoles is Gamepop. From Bluestacks, who have a great Android app emulator for PC and Mac, comes another contender for this ripe slice of the market. With Gamepop, you’re able to play games on your TV using either their controller or your touchscreen advice. Gamepop is going a different route by offering gaming on a subscription basis.

Instead of paying for individual games on Gamepop’s library, you’ll pay a small subscription fee of $6.99 per month and get access to a catalog of 500 games. Gamepop will be adding more games to market as time goes by. Until the end of May 2013, subscribers of this service will receive the console and controller for free. After May, new subscriber will have to pay for the console and a currently undisclosed amount. The specs for the console have also not been released but we do know that it will running Android 4.2, like Ouya.

GameStick:($79)

Gamestick is the next Android gaming console that looks to hit it big. They market themselves to be the world’s smallest gaming console and their claims seem to be rather accurate. The GameStick console, as the name implies, is console that resembles a USB stick but sports a Amlogic 8726-MXS processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB storage space (upgradeable to 64GB via the GameStick dock).

The GameStick dock (sold separately) allows for the addition of accessories like mics, cameras, keyboards, mice, etc. It’s most prominent feature though, is that it allows for wireless charging of the controller by simply placing it on top of the dock. With my ever increasing tangle of cables and chords, this would be very welcome.

I've only heard of the OUYA but the subscription gaming offered by the GamePop seems very interesting.

How is this the wrong section? It's off topic, and it isn't about a specific game. Just as we discussed next generation consoles in OTL.

Also, How well does the Tegra handle emulators?

I don't think the gamepop will be coming out till this winter, so the sub might hurt it if the OUYA does well at $99, but at least they don't charge you until it's shipped.

If you want it for emulators then you're better off just buying a Rasberry Pi. In all honesty, they're a piece of garbage. The only thing that I'd possibly use it would be for TV off a harddrive. If I wanted to play cellphone games on my TV I would have done it long ago, but why the hell would I want to play angry birds on a 52" TV?

As a 'gaming' machine it's silly. As an emulator, it's overpriced. As a TV device, it's overpriced. It doesn't that OUYA's controller is a cheap piece of hardware either. The controller has a lot of deadzones, but hey they're used for cellphone games who cares?

Where it's red is where it can detect. Though supposedly that's a firmware issue or some shit. I stopped following OUYA's a long time ago and I just hear information here and there.

Spoiler!

Those issues have been fixed several weeks ago already.
This is the new graph:
Spoiler!

I backed Ouya during their Kickstarter campaign and I cannot wait to receive my unit.
Buying a GamePop og GameStick makes no sense to me, as it is merely mobile games with a controller attached. Heck, they even just use the Google Play store.

What sets Ouya apart is that they're building their own platform from the ground up. This means that
the games you can download on the Ouya will have been made to take advantage of the Ouya, which ensures that they work a lot better than most games on the Google Play store does with a controller.
As of right now, most games on the Ouya are but ports of games that already exist on Google Play, which is obvious as not too many developers have had their hands on the Ouya just yet. And those who have it, have not had enough time to develop any larger games in such a small amount of time.

Ouya's biggest hurdle that they have to overcome will be how they will communicate to the consumers that they are actually different from GamePop, GameStick and all the others out there. If they succeed in marketing it correctly, though, I see no reason why anyone would buy the GamePop or GameStick.

Besides, Ouya can be used for so much more as well, such as watching Netflix movies etc.

The r-pi is weaker than the 3 of these "consoles" but they will probably need to be rooted and a new ROM or kernel to run emus like the espsxe and work right. I still think it should be in OG but I'm not losing sleep over it lol

Of course it's weaker, but it does majority of the jobs that people say they bought Ouya for.

So can my phone, rasberry-pi, PS3, and so on. Do I really need another device for Netflix? Movies? I'm not judging your purchase, but it certainly isn't revolutionary, innovative, nor worth $100 for me to spend on to act like what my devices already do. It's biggest hurdle is not being a piece of junk hardware.

Quite a lot of different Emulators have already been released on the Ouya, so there's no need to root anything or add a new ROM.

You took that a bit out of context. It was meant as an end statement, if you know what I mean.
I have bought the Ouya to play a lot of my Emulator games as well as all the great games that is already released / will be released for the Ouya within the next couple of months.
The ability to watch movies is just nice, as the Ouya will stand beneath my TV 24/7 anyway, so it's simply easier than to connect my PC to the TV via a HDMI every time I want to watch, say, Netflix.

Where the Ouya really innovates is that it is creating its own platform. Something which I'm yet to see anyone do (except from of course the big already-existing consoles such as Xbox, Playstation, Wii etc.).

It's hardly innovative. Certainly not worth $100 to spend on, personally.

Saw this hit the top of Reddit the other day.

I don't see the point, though. Just because he's not able to connect?

Please elaborate. Or I could re-phrase to ask: Please let me know of a console that allows me to do the same as the Ouya for a cheaper price? (considering quality as well).
