staff were forced to shoot two of the animals dead, as they were too far away to be anaesthetised
Such a poor excuse.

"Unfortunately, as they were further away and an anaesthetic dart takes 15 minutes to take effect, two had to be shot."

In general, wolves don't attack humans! Seriously, The wolf is more afraid of you... than you are of it!

sad indeed!

@blackfox - i'm sure if one of the wolves were to do something to someone their friends/family would find comfort in the fact that wolves don't 'generally' attack humans and that they were as cautious as possible regarding the wolf but not those that it may run across in those fifteen minutes.

A spokesman for the zoo had tried to re-assure members of the public that they were not in danger from the wolf which in the wild live on a diet of deer and rodents.

A statement confirmed: 'Wolves are naturally timid and provided they are not cornered in any way, they do not provide a risk to the public.'
So, why shoot them?!

Well, Three wolves shot dead after being cornered by police

Yeah, police shouldn't corner the wolves. They should just let them roam around.

Blame everyone who endorses these animal's captivity under the misguided notion of love for wild animals or some supposed educational benefit......Most animals in a zoo (even ones born in captivity) would run free if given the chance........

So when you hate people you should hate people like you and me who pay to go see these animals in cages where our fees acts as an incentive to keep them caged up.......(I say caged up in comparison to what they're use to)..

Don't just hate the negligent person who caused them to escape and the ones who shot them...... I don't like to see them shot and killed either (unless its for food) but I think having them caged up is just as ridiculous....

honestly, I hate all or most people. But there was no need to kill them, I'm sure there was another way to catch or trap the wolves humanly.

Also my mum was out riding her horse around the time this happened, she even heard the shots fired. Btw her horse is almost next door to the zoo.

A timber wolf isn't large enough to bring down a horse by itself. It would be after a cat, dog or child if it was hunting around humans.

I wasn't worried about the wolf harming my mum's horse or my mum, was worried about the wolf spooking the horse, but my mum later told me that they have seen a pack of Irish wolfhounds out for walks in the area. But one of my mum's friends, her horse will spook at anything, even a smaller pony, but he wasn't out with them.
