There's a lot of ppl who have absolutely no idea what net neutrality is. I'm doing an argument paper for my english class supporting net neutrality, and I find that most of the ppl in my class and most ppl that I know don't know what it is or why they should care.

So, SRF community, how many of you know what the net neutrality debate is and what do you think about it?

Net Neutrality: The principle that telecommunication companies must treat all internet traffic as equal. Therefore not imposing any authority over and/or favoritism towards services offered on the web.

What the **** does that mean?
It means that telecommunication companies cannot control which websites get a lot of traffic. Also, they cannot block access to certain websites.

Why should I care?
The increase in charges to those who provide web services can and will trickle down to the consumer.
The imposting charges may get to the point where online competition won't depend on who provides the best service, but who has the deepest pockets.
This gives the telecommunication companies power over what you choose to do online.

There's a lot more to this issue and my views here are biased (i'm definitely in favor of net neutrality).
But I just wanted to see just how informed was the SRF community.

Neutrality for all.
Payingfor better connection and getting onto sites should stay as free as possible, or else: Pure Capitalism.

Funny thing is...that's actually how it works.
Except not in such a off-the-wall way.

Really? So, if you had a website you would be ok if AT&T blocked its customers from visiting?
