You mistook the adjective "a" for "the".
Example: San Francisco is a city north of Los Angeles.
This does not mean if a city is north of Los Angeles, it is San Francisco.
Thus, "Japanophilia (...) is a result of lacking good taste." does not mean "If one lacks good taste, then he/she is a Japanophile."
