Does anyone have a good new Idea on alternative energy or some information about it? For example I was thinking off capturing lightning but it wouldn't be efficient. Just any Ideas like solar power, wind, wave, anything I want to see what I can come up with. Thanks if you have any ideas.

Well, the best ways to save energy will probably not happen in a long time since you have to change alot of things.
A way to save energy with automobiles is instead of using petroleum, to use magnetic fields to boost car speed and to slow it down. But you have to change entire transportation functions so won't be used for a long time.

Edit: This saves a lot of energy because most energy wasted is when a car uses a brake. Heat energy is wasted through tires . With magnetic fields, no braking system is needed the car will touch the ground.

It would depend on your region, like in the south, you could use solar energy

if your near the ocean, hydro electricity and wind can be a option (since we all know that waves create a certain amount of wind)

So remember, it's all about where you live.

You can't capture electricity. It either gets used or goes away. We could always go back to using bikes.

You can store it in batteries.

Funny you mention alternative energy.

When I was about 10, I tagged along with my brother and his friends to the beach. We were riding bikes, you see. Half way there, my brother's friend (who particularly known for his academic achievements in Physics) told me to lean aside. He lifted his butt and farted loudly and joked that the bike just accelerated that much. Everybody had a good laugh.

On topic, I think alternative fuel is a good place to get us less depended on foreign oil. Ethanol production has increased by 40% last year (I heard on a news radio). The total production is still no where close to make a difference but it's a solid start.

Last year, I voted to fund the alternative fuel researches in my state but 60% of Californians think we should keep rely on Middle East's oil.

Yeah, thing is people want to do this and that, and it's nice, but they refuse to spend money for it. Like people complain that using corn to produce oil will increase the corn price -> more hungry/poor people.

I read that if you fill 10,000 square kilomenters with solar panels somewhere in Africa where the sun shines alot, there is enough solar energy for the entire world population.

That was just a scam. Anyone with half a brain should have been able to realize it. Do you honestly believe that the tax would not have been passed on to the consumer? Do you think that oil companies would just stay in California and pay the tax when they could move? There was nothing in that bill that demanded results, and the bureaucracy that would have been in charge was 100% not accountable to anyone at all, and there was criteria on who made up the board (no conflict of interest provisions, ie, they could be politicians, or CEOs of various whatever companies, and did not have to have any sort of expertise in the field). They would have been free to give that money to anyone, including their friends who were "researching" , people who finance their campaigns, or even their own companies.

Alternative energy is good, but that would have been a stupid way to do it. The ends do NOT justify the means. You want alternative energy? Look at what's been going on with diesel engines in the last decade or two.

If you want more mileage out of gasoline, there's a growing number of people advocating putting a small amount of pure acetone in your gas tank. Which is purported to give a 13-35% (sometimes more) increase in fuel economy. Louis LaPointe has an article about it here. You can read the Acetone Fuel Additive FAQ here.

Hydro energy. The earth is 98% water, after all. :)

There is alo the concept, which, later on might be a liable method.

"Residual energy" or better known as Zero-point energy in modern times. The concept was given birth from Otto Stern and Albert Einstein.
A theory that the universe uses this so-called zero energy is called "The cosmological constant". Which is like a updated version of the theory of general relativity.
All this is a supposed way of extracting "free energy" from the vaccume of space. As the universe expands, it releases vaccume energy and this urges the universes to keep expanding.

Albert Einstein had called this theory his biggest blunder, although people today are making discoverys that seem to be proving his orginal idea.

Anyway, this is my general summary of it. You might want to research it yourself rather than get the short-cut version.
