Hey does anyone know of the best PC deal that can be bought for under $400 dollars? It doesn't have to include a monitor. I'm looking for links, like to a new egg deal or something.

Thanks

You could probably build a decent tower for 400$. But it wouldn't be able to keep up with the newer games and you'd be missing a mouse, keyboard, and whatever else you want.

It entirely depends on:

A. how much you are comfortable doing yourself.
B. How much of a video card you need/want
C. How much you can scavenge from your current PC.

If you can do it yourself:

Athlon 64x2 3800+ on Biostar K8M800MAM2: 114.53
Radeon x1650 256mb: 75.83
pc2-6400 ddr2-800 1gb: 41.99
SATA 320 GB hard drive: 69.00
Chaintech AV-710 7.1 sound card: 25.00
Logitech X-230 2.1 speakers: 34.00

Giving you 40 bucks to spend on any peripherals/cords you'd need, or upgrading any one or two components.

However, if you don't want to put it together yourself, you can get a low end Dell (Dimension E521n) for about 400 with:

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 3600+
128MB ATI Radeon X1300
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
Onboard sound
No speakers

And that's without any of dell's monthly coupons. If one is out this month that applies to this model of computer, you might end up saving like, 100 bucks, enough to throw in a Chaintech and get some decent 2.1 speakers.

You can get a pretty good calculator for that price.

I am not looking for anything over the top, as I understand it is out of my budget. I just want know where I can get the best bang for my buck. Thanks for the suggestions anyhow.
So putting one together is cheaper? I didn't want to go that way since with pre-made systems, you can get Windows (legit version) included at a bargain.

Well, we can scratch out the speakers, since I already have some. And I can probably have my brother transfer the soundcard of this computer to the new one one so we can also scratch that out for now. I'm not really a sound freak anyway.

If I add that up, it comes to around $302 (and maybe like $100 more dollars for periphals and a cheap case/power supply). Is that enough to run most current MMORPGs smoothly? And do I need to buy anything else?

And also, do you think the Dimension E521n is enough to play Silkroad smoothly? If so, I'll think about getting a Dell instead. Keep in mind, this is coming from a guy that uses a crappy old, hand-me-down computer with a 20gig hard drive, 512mb ram, Athlon XP 1800+ 1533 MHz and a GeForce4 MX420 which may seem pretty ancient. In my case, I have never seen water reflection before in a game lol.

For games, you need at least 1GB of ram and 128 MB graphics card. That should allow you to comfortably play on the low end for games. For better performance, bump up the graphics card and get a bit more RAM.

Well in that case I'd recommend going to a PCI-E video card, as the one I listed was AGP and would limit you greatly in upgrading it further if you wanted. If you wanted that you could probably get a newer Nvidia card, as well as another gig of ram and still stay under your 400 dollar limit.

That said, those prices were the first I found for each component. I'd HIGHLY recommend scouring rebate sites like slickdeals and OT's deal's board, because you can end up saving a ton of money with rebates EG. on slickdeals right now there's a deal for 2 gigs of DDR2-800 for 60 bucks after MIR. So for 18 bucks more, you've doubled your RAM. Finally, if you're looking into a dell wait until the 4th. There's been rumours of a blowout sale, and if you're buying on anyway, you might end up getting a LOT more computer for the price.

Actually wait until the end of this month. I'm sure I can come up with something decent after the price drops by the end of this month.

Yes, because everyone needs a quad core with 8 gigs of ram and 4 TB of storage.
