Does it matter if it is an elementary school or not? No matter where it is still bad.

you can be angry, but not shocked. because that would imply it's something new and shocking, but it's not. and everytime people are shocked, as if they didn't expect. as if it never happened before. if these shootings happen and you do nothing about it, they will keep happening. maybe it's time to stop being shocked and and start doing something about it.

Oh yes, next time we'll just happen to know who's going to do this, and where, and we'll go there and stop them from doing it. Do you even read the crap you type?

I disagree with you @heroo Such news is always "shocking" because we're never prepared to hear it.

If those 5 year old kids had guns and were trained, they would have been able to stop the shooting
RIP to the kids, but wonder how their parents had relatives must be feeling...
Cant sensible states ban guns within their states only? But oh wait, here the federal government should reign supreme?

Time for a another gun control debate...Who says having fire arms to protect yourself helps.... While your gun is at home you get a call at your workplace saying some maniac killed your kid... I've heard compelling reasons why gun control is bad and also why it is good... but in situations like these the argument for gun control seems to be hitting home a lot more...If gun control isn't the answer then we need to find some variant of it...some level of control is needed to reduce the chances of sending innocent people (in this case little kids) to an early grave...

TheDrop wrote: Cant sensible states ban guns within their states only? But oh wait, here the federal government should reign supreme? States nor the government can outright ban guns. Goes against the 2nd amendment to the constitution; would need to get rid of the 2nd amendment and even then would need--if I remember correctly--3/4 of states vote FOR it, and that's never going to happen, nor should it. Banning guns is an extreme that doesn't need to happen due to some nut doing this. The perpetrator in this instance isn't the one who even purchased the guns, nor is the one who, defined by law "possessed" them: he stole them from his mother who was the legal owner of the firearms under Connecticut law(s). This IMHO has nothing to do with gun possession/buying/selling laws. The guns were bought completely legally under Connecticut gun laws, they were just stolen after the owner of them was murdered. The issue is that the guns weren't kept in a secure/safe location and were easily accessible to someone who shouldn't have had access to them.

As far as Hero's sentiments go, it's only natural to feel sadness and shock at these events. Sure, they have happened before, but that doesn't make it less terrible. For the families and children involved this act was completely out of the blue and within an hour their lives have been permanently changed. I believe that they have every right to feel as upset or as shocked as they want, this sort of tragedy would not be easy to deal with. It's something I know that I personally can't even comprehend. As far as the "ban the guns!" blame game goes, I'll repeat what I said on Facebook earlier today. I dislike the blame game. Guns don't kill people. Guns are just a tool. At the end of the day people kill. People are killing because of multiple societal influences that alter their minds to reject our ideals of morality. Instead of discussing how to make the world a better place in order to reduce people from having these destructive thoughts, we blame these blanket ideals like legalised guns, video games and drugs. There's no single answer that will stop these incidents from occurring and the fact that people blame a single influence shows us that we will never see peace within this world. I'm sorry for the bluntness of this rant, but we've had far too many pointless deaths in the last few years to play ignorant any more. We need to make this world a better place, help our fellow man and promote a peaceful society. Then, just maybe then, we will see people reject these foul desires despite their terrible circumstances.

banning guns is definitely the right answer. Look at countries where guns are illegal and you will see the death rate from violent crime goes down dramatically. guns are such a easy and quick way to kill someone and requires such little effort people just dont think twice about pulling a trigger any more and its all over within a second. id guess 80% of the people that shoot someone to kill would not kill someone if they knew they had to do it with a knife as its harder to accomplish without a struggle.
but having said that... there is far too many guns in the US to do an outright ban and americans are far to anal about it to ban it. americans dont see it as "if you are allowed guns, you are responsible for these terrible incidents to happen more frequently". instead they have a very patriotic view of gun law that will mean people buy guns for self defence and bring just another gun onto the street.
i feel sorry for americans as they really dont have a good solution for this and unfortunately i can see this happening again in the future.

I'm surprised it took this long to reach SRF. Sort of...
My thoughts are: Condolences to the families and people effected, and that's really it. I'm not going to shout for gun laws or feel super down about it.

Banning guns in america will almost never happen...not when the right to bare arms has been indoctrinated and ingrained within them so much....Some of them will hold fast to that belief even if their own family or friends died in some shooting... I don't agree with the love affair they have with their outdated second amendment garbage but I can understand the social and mental conditioning that makes some of them not wanting to let go of their perceived rights....
The best you could hope for is a compromise between their rights to have arms and the rights for innocent people to live in a world where guns are kept out of the hands of maniacs... Yeah I know, easier said than done.... What they probably need is the most strictness laws possible about gun purchasing and possession with hefty fines and or jail time should those laws be broken...

ok so the outcome is that guns wont be banned or restricted but i have other solutions that can be implemented that wont break the 2nd amendment... limit the production of guns. the production of guns must be made for EITHER military or PROFESSIONAL SPORTS use. there should be no other reason to produce guns. Police force can get their guns from the military supply. Increase the price on guns. a stealth tax that trebles the price of a gun will stop people from just spending for the sake of owning a gun. when a gun is purchased, only sell a limited amount of ammo for that weapon. the extra ammo must be purchased with a seperate license which has deeper looks into peoples background. maximum of 2 guns per household! this has got to be a no brainer, some people stock pile hundreds of guns and this is a recipe for disaster. make gun modifications illegal, unless they are to render a weapon useless. (some people will want to keep guns as art, they dont care about its shooting) NEVER allow semi auto or auto rifles to be taken back to someones house. police and military use should be under strict lock and key and only used for training or combat purposes. as for the sports side, they could keep these on site as long as they are not in a busy city (or well secured ie. guards and metal detection and proof that the gun has been secured back with the shop before a person leaves) and they must be tethered to the shooting range when outside of the security lock
simple rules can make owning a gun far less dangerous then a typical stock pile guns and ammo and cause terror like the 3 times this year -.-

one problem though. say the U.S. bans the possession of weapons. what will happen with all the weapons that the people now have? I believe there are like 250 million weapons in the U.S. atm.
