Suddenly thought about SRF the other day and decided to see how it's faring and it's good to see it's still going!

Loads of things have changed since I last logged on:
- Graduated uni
- Started working
- Engaged
- Learned new things and grew
- Still gaming when I get the time

Good to see you guys!

I just realized my last update in this thread was in 2017! Holy smokes. Okay, here's an update.

- Launched a game company, got investment, grew it to a decent size
- Crashed with stress and quit the company I co-founded (toughest decision of my life...)
- Been slowly recovering from stress but in a much better place now, working on my YouTube channel and a mobile games discovery / review platform
- Recently bought a house that my wife and I are now almost entirely renovating (the only thing left is the skeleton of the house, haha)

Is the company still around? Co-founder still doing well? (I assume you transferred your share to him?)
Did you get to publishing anything?

Hello old friend!

It's 2024, close to two decades now. I used to frequent this forum during my Uni days.
-I graduated in 2011 and started working a few months after.
-Life turned upside down in 2013.
-Basically broke in 2014.
-Slowly able to save in 2015.
-Landed my remote work in 2016, still working for the same company.
-Life is better in 2018.
-Got married in 2019.
-First time travelling abroad in early 2020. Then covid happened, we all know that shit show.
-Everything's good in 2024. I hope everyone else is doing great!

Hi folks. It's been a minute.

I'm past my mid-30s now and it's astonishing to think I began posting here in my late teens. I'm married now to the same girl I've been playing MMOs with since before I even started SRO. I proposed to her in Japan about 8 years ago and we've traveled through multiple countries since. We bought our first home in NYC. Our two dogs passed away at the age of 16 last year and we still miss them every day. I've also experienced plenty of personal losses and grief over the years in ways that I never could've predicted if you asked me the last time I popped up here. Still, life goes on. My wife and I are in the midst of doing a travel journal project and scouring old accounts for any hidden gem photos and memories which is how I ended up here today. I hope you all are doing well in life and if not, I wish that things get better soon.

Awesome, nice to see this thread is still alive, and that the overall message is that us old SRF'ers are doing well As inky and mahumps already said, for those not doing so well now, fingers crossed things work out for the better soon!


So this was 2017.. Since then...

- Got married in 2018
- First kid (boy) in 2020
- Second kid (girl) in 2022
- Sold our house in the Netherlands and migrated to Norway in 2023
- Third kid (not sure boy/girl yet) in autumn 2024

Life's good, work in IT so have a nice work/life balance, work from home nearly all the time. Live in the middle of nature, and its a 25minute train travel to Oslo. Lets hear some more updates!

Dam it's been years.
Thought I posted here way back but I may be blind, haha.

2010 had our third child and was a mr mom for the next 9 years. IDC what anyone says.. Mom's got it rough, haha. Started our business after years of planning and raising startup funds at the end of 2019, lol. Shut down before opening because of covid a few months later. Been a rough 4 years but finally opening our game store in Nov of 2024.

We host DND multiple times a month and still gaming with my 29 year old and 13 year old sons. Currently they are laughing at me fail at Elden Ring. and um, Oh dam yeah. Daughter had her first child 2 years ago, being a Grandpa is the best dam thing in the world.

I don't know who cares but...

I suffer with severe depression.
I suffer with anxiety and panic attacks.
I severed all ties with all friends.
I severed all relationships with my family members except my brother and parents.
got engaged and was planning to move to america and then my fiance ghosted me.
probably going to lose my job soon.
Two stints in a residential mental institution.
and based on some other stuff, I don't have much hope that the future is going to be better any time soon.

Ive mentioned in the SRF discord, I look back on this place as some of the best times in my life.
My first bout of depression started when I lost a friend to suicide and I've been clinically depressed ever since. I played Silkroad before I spoke with them. Silkroad helped me cope with anxiety and I keep coming back to look for glimmers of hope from this community.

Many of you in this community have helped in ways which you cannot imagine. Just to name a few of you:

I don't think there's much I can say that your therapist hasn't told you already in a much more well-articulated way, but at least know that we care.

Depression is a terrible beast.
Take the time you need, get well and take control. Start kicking ass.

feel honoured to be named, life sucks as you get older. I have struggled with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts but importantly you ARE here. Take each day as it comes.

Been such a long time since I've posted here. Life has definitely changed. Miss the memories we built here but glad we got to experience them in the first place. Just became a father and getting married, finishing studies and working in tech and working on a small company. Do not really get time to play nowadays but still think of SRO a lot.

On a sidenote: not sure how many of you are following Ashes of Creation, but the caravan system reminds me so much of our job wars back in the day!
