People tell me they can't afford insurance, I don't see how you can't afford it. I just bought a new car on Sunday (Hyundai Elantra SLX, $19,400) and insurance for it will be $70 a month (I pick it up on friday). That $70 a month is full comprehensive insurance and covers the full repair cost for both my car and any objects I damage when I run into then. A simple $70 a month could save me buying another $20,000 car or could even save me spending $60,000 if I total someone else's Audi A4. Personally, I think someone is insane to drive without insurance.
As far as the no licence thing, don't do it. If you get caught (which is quite likely due to random breath testing) you will face a fine of a few thousand dollars and probably loose your licence for 6 months, or in your case be prohibited from getting one for another 6 moths. Again, simply not worth it. If you need a way to get there, buy a cheap motorbike and get a licence for that. Your idea is insane.
Your definitely not a teen if your insurance is $70 a month with a $19000 car. New drivers have a very high insurance 99% of the times.
I'm 20 years old, my insurance is in my parents name and I'm nominated as a second driver. The car is in her name, but I pay for it and I own it. Like everyone else has said, getting insurance as a second driver is a much cheaper solution.
