It all depends on how close you truly were to the person. Some people never shed a tear....whether before or after the funeral. You feel sad sure. But not everyone cries

Honestly this is the best way to describe it.

I just got the call today that the funeral will be Friday and that I am going to be a pall-bearer at the ceremony.

Whats doing my head in with this thread is how single minded everyone is, people deal with death different hell some relgions celebrate it, others moarn the passing of a loved one

not everyone gets upset or sad with the passing of a loved one, its nothing to do with how close you are to them or whether you liked them or not simple matter is how you view death

so enough of this it will hit you, everyone gets sad etc

One thing thats accross the whole spectrum of all this is that you will miss them even if you didnt like them you will miss the friction but it might make you smile might make you cry when you think back on it

Back from the funeral and the reception.

So being there at the open casket viewing and at the actual funeral service, my demeanor never changed. I didn't cry seeing my grandfather in the casket. Didn't cry carrying the casket to the grave spot.

I teared up during some of the speeches, but that's about it.

Actually, I was complimented for being as strong as I was. People felt comforted that through everything, people were still remaining strong and holding it together.

Interesting experience nonetheless.

Crazy, I just went to my best friend's wedding today... He didn't cry all day, but once we sat down and talked we both teared up like little school girls. Emotions are tricky things I tell ya =P

I wasn't too sad when my Grandad died, even though I loved him dearly. At the funeral though when talking to the Vicar he asked me, "You must have been close to him, huh?". For some reason, that got me.
