Prestige of your diploma means nothing when it puts you in debt for the rest of your life.
Trust me, there is nothing "disgraceful" about going to a CC to save (literally half or more) in tuition to take basic course that will transfer to the prestigious college of your choice. Trust me, they accept transfers.
It would only be disgraceful if you went to the CC and then didn't make the grades to transfer.
If your parents are footing the bill for tuition, well...
Speaking from experience, I have 4 friends who went to A&M straight out of HS. They average about 60k in debt each. Me? 13k. The one that did the same thing I'm in the process of doing? CC -> SFA -> A&M masters. ~20k in debt.
