A lot of people who major in philosophy have better critical thinking skills in comparison with most people. They know how to gather data and analyze it rather than memorization and regurgitation of information (AKA "brain dumping/vomit"). I went to a few philosophy club discussions (whenever the photo club is not in session) and I found them to be very mentally-stimulating.
It's not as "useless" as most people think it is. One of my most intelligent friends is a bachelor of philosophy; one of the few people I actually enjoy having a conversation with. The guy also has a degree in nursing, a lab tech license, and current taking the PA program..but he still plans to become a physician after his tour with the military (he recently joined). So no, I wouldn't call it useless.
