Wow, this took me a while to figure out, both the binary and the rectangle thing, I'm getting slow.

10=2 in binary

The triangles do NOT match up into a perfect rectangle the second time around.

So... am I right? Don't make me google this.

It probably uses a similar trick to this:

(The line AB is actually two segments that are concave, while DE is convex which accounts for the missing square)

As you can see, the shapes form quadrilaterals rather than triangles because the ones on the bottom are 2° off. (112.4-90=22.4, 22.4!=20.4)

I never read 1984, only a small synopsis.

the rectangle thing is easy, as stated by a few people, the 2nd one isn't exactly the amount of squares you think it is.

That is only true in the context of a circuit diagram. On computers, OR is either represented with ||, sometimes as |, or written out.

A OR B
or A, B

The AND, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR, and XNOR operations from your link cannot be represented in ASCII, therefore they are never used on computers outside of specialized circuit diagram software.
