I'm just saying, we had the displeasure of seeing Wu Tang live at Coachella and it was the most godawful, boring performance of the weekend. A bunch of rappers standing around. Lame.

2Chainz was late to his set and was even worse.

Conversely, every single rock band I saw their stage performance was on point. Watching these guys jam out on instruments and actually be passionate about what they're doing is what it's about.

yea....standing infront of the mic.

Wutang is known within the hip hop community to suck live because they have 400000000 members and all of them are on stage.

Then you just don't like conscious hip hop.

This will help, name a hip hop artist that you like?

lol a video of Odd Future? They're known for being retarded and out there. Also their music is just as shitty as any other modern day rappers.

There a cult group, there's no middle ground you either love them or hate them.

And wait, you dont want the artist to get retarded out on the stage but you dont want them to stand infront of the mic?

The obvious difference is that bands actually...play instruments. Weird concept having to master an instrument(s) and do well enough to play in sync and melodic enough to actually sound good. As opposed to standing in front of a mic and rapping.

Cause rappers are..vocalists.
Producers actually create the music, and tbh I think creating the actual music is more important than just playing the notes. Not saying knowing how to play a instrument is not important, but really, composer versus orchestra member..

Heres an awesome live from Coachella (Hey Mama)

Heres the type of epic production I'm talking about, which you'd never be able to create with a band

Odd Future has some real good tracks; She, Seven, White, Oldie, Yonkers

just to prove a point.
Code: Select all

a band that writes all their own stuff, complexity that is far beyond the complexity of any rap song, multiple uses of rhythm changes and unique time signatures.

consisting of one of the best drummers alive, one of the best guitarists alive and one of the best basses' alive, its hard not to consider this band not a super group.

however i will take it all back if you can find a rap song that contains anywhere near the complexity of this song. The talent of very good metal bands far out way any rap individual.

oh and when i said "bitch dont kill my vibe" had 6 writers... its 6 writers NOT producers, go look it up.

Having a lot of people who are good at something on the same stage does NOT take away from the skill and talent of a single individual. You are basically saying that the worlds best piano player is shit compared to that band.

Its really nice that you found a band you like, good for you, music is subjective. I'm not saying other genres of music are shit, I'm saying stop talking shit without a clue.

I dont know if you understand that i_dont_give_a_fack whether you "take it all back", b/c obviously you aren't very open minded to hip hop. I posted a ton of tracks above if you are really interested, but hip hop mostly uses synths and drums (like EDM), not guitar riffs.
Also video doesnt work, you put the whole link in not just that section. :sohappy:

Look at all the producers in that room. Pharrell, Swizz Beats, Timberland, Rick Rubin +a couple more I can't recognize.

Also, for anyone looking for rap without sex, drugs, or money; 1 name. WILL SMITH

This amount of bullshit in this thread is just frustrating. What really ticks me off is when people argue that hip-hop is shit and talentless because of what they hear on the radio. Wtf dude?

Do you guys not understand yet that what plays on the radio are club bangers? Music to build hype, get the party going. Why the **** are you studying the complexity of the lyrics in those kind of songs? There's too many references to girls, money and drugs in hip-hop? No shit, that's what runs the world and as Drop mentioned, there's different ways to go about rapping or singing about these subjects and that what makes the difference between a good and shitty rapper. And let's not act like rock or other types of music doesn't talk about those subjects.

If anything, hip-hop right now is actually coming through with talented rappers more that it had been in a big while.

So what I'm really trying to say is just admit you don't know shit about hip-hop instead of spewing bullshit. Good rap isn't even hard to find, it's right infront of you if you decide to look beyond the top 10 YouTube videos of the Music section.

P.S: I'm not pointing at anyone in specific when saying "you".

the video didnt work because i wanted to try to skip the 30s of static intro... but that failed.

@crimson_nuker huh? i didnt say anything about producers, i said writers, writers that write songs... the important part about the song is writing... a shite song produced by a good producer will still be a shit song.

@TheDrop im not saying hip-hop/rap is shit, i like and listen to rap/hip-hop a lot. I dont just listen to metal, I listen to lots of genres from jazz and classical to dance and 70's disco...

Im saying that in order to make a rap song, without the lyrics, it requires almost no talent at all. I took music tech and the guy i sat next to didnt know how to play any instrument at all, he had no knowledge of music theory and yet he got a C in his composition which he chose to make a rap song...
the program he used highlighted notes out of scale, out of the rhythm (which was a preset beat selected from a loop library) and even allowed automatic harmonization with the click of a button.

He input the whole thing using point and click to input notes and sounds and the computer did the rest. It didnt sound bad, it sounded very good, he had a good ability to modify notes to what he liked (even though there was only 7 notes in the scale) and took his time to do it.

he didnt do the rapping section, he wrote lyrics and got another artist to rap (like a lot of popular main-stream artists) and then he produced the song again by just pointing clicking, copying and pasting sections till it sounded right.

it makes everyone that learnt an instrument like they wasted a huge amount of time (a lot of people learnt musical instruments and theory especially for music courses)

Yes Penfold music production takes no skill at all, I'm really interested to see your new hits that you are selling for 20k per piece

Yeezus projected to be selling 360k-380k, not bad considering there was no single, no interviews, it leaked and its more of a EDM album

production =/= composition.

the beetles songs sound shit by todays standard of recording but the content of the songs will be timely classics. They didnt need all the post production stuff that we have now in order to create songs that were clearly years ahead of the rest.

it doesnt matter how good the production of a song is if the composition itself sucks. Not even the best producer in the world could make a series of dissonant, syncopated notes into a number 1 song.

Jay Z, Eminem, Drake, Lupe Fiasco, Pusha T, 50 cent, Lil Wayne, Big Sean, Tyler, Rick Ross are all releasin 2013 I think. I know, all mainstream but I'm definitely getting Jay Z/Eminem/Drake, will look at Lupe's and Pusha T

well.. i think its a little unfair to say that they just make the beat... but thats quite true. Composition in a lot of rap and hip hop doesnt necessarily require a lot of work because raw rap with just a drum track and a pedal note can be enough and still create a great rap track. the simplicity of it is the reason there are so many people able to get on the scene and generate new ideas (even if as an individual they dont have success)

So simplistic beats are easy to make, and all hip hop beats are simplistic?
I'm still interested in that $20k+ beat from you

@BlackFox the original song is better than that mix, if you have heard it ~,o
