When you try to impose/enforce anything upon society it doesn't work....(even when its a good thing). Its probably better to give incentives for losing weight...like having the government give out cash bonuses/discounts on food bills to NEC employees for leading healthy lives. That to me is a win win situation.

It mightwork, but the government won't give everybody a cash bonus if they lose a bit of weight, and then you got all the people that will try to find flaws in the system and get money for doing nothing. And with the disocunt on food, that means they can buy more ood for a lowe price = more fatties. I reckon it would be worth a try though maybe for a yea or two, then they ca assess the results and decide whether to keep it.
any kind of attempt to reduce number of fat people in america will have people cry about government takeover. If parents are too fcking stupid to teach their kids to eat right, then the government should step up. The health of the nation is directly connected to its prosperity.

Well, I understand that they want to encourage health and that's good
But.. meh, This article is over exaggerating.

When your company gives the free annual health checkups required by law, if the results show too many people over the (admittedly preposterously small) arbitrary waistline chosen by the idiot old men running the country, the company will have to pay more to the insurance company to cover the extra costs associated with all the fatties in their employ.

I really do hate the entire thing they are trying to do, I truly do. I know, I hate a lot of things. Dam, I hate most things to be honest. But this really gets on my nerves.
Being overweight is bad for your health, we all know this. You are typically less fit and face higher chances of developing diseases and illnesses. But if someone chooses to be overweight and they are happy with their lifestyle choices, why not let them stay as they are? Not everyone who is fat is sad. Not everyone wants to be stick thin. Some people actually like the size they are and are willing to accept their body for the faults that it has, as opposed to trying to become a picture of the idealistic body.I think what we should be doing is trying to encourage people to stop placing such shallow opinions on people's bodies and get them to focus on eating healthy, but not concentrating on just "losing weight".
Myself? I am not one of these people. I'm around 5 foot 9 inches, or around 175cm's and I weight 65 kgs (143 pounds). At that weight I even think I'm too fat, and I'm working vigorously to loose weight. My goal weight is 60 kgs, perhaps lower if I can loose it without losing any muscle. And frankly I hate how shallow I've become, I truly do. But I see all these images of guys with perfectly ripped abs, not a drop of body fat on them and who basically have idealistic bodies and I think to myself "why would any girl in her right mind want to be with me when they can have someone like that?". I'm a white, boring, cynical nerd with a shocking personality, i don't have much going on for me. And considering the shallow tendencies that society has developed, all I can do is succumb to the pressure of trying to loose every ounce of fat I have in order to meet other people's standards. Either that, or die alone. And people try to tell me that a mass wide effort to loose weight is a good thing. All it does is destroy the confidence of everyone who has imperfections and reminds us all that no matter how thin we are, you still suck. Bah!
Losing weight and becoming ripped steroid gods are two very different things...
If you are having medical problem related to your weight, unable to do normal physical activities, or can't play sports or something strenuous for a relatively good period of time, 1+ hours, you are overweight or need help.
Assuming of course you don't have something that's blocking you like asthma or no legs or something.

This is stupid they have to learn that some people have a slower metabolism then others they are just naturally meant to be fatter. Maybe they should just make the restaurants sell healthier food instead of junk. Now these people with a slow metabolism are going to have to work extra hard just to lose weight. I know there are things you can do to get a faster/higher metabolism but imagine someone that has kids and has to work 8hrs+ a day, how do you possibly expect them to be concerned about losing weight on top of that. Edit:
They can also change things in the school cafeteria and make them take P.E. a certain amount of times.
I wonder if I should point out that ownership over oneself belongs solely to the individual, meh insane thoughts again.
