i was wondering if anyone knew of places i could get a laptop (around $500) without an OS.

i am going to use this laptop for school and not gaming so i think linux would be much better then windows in this case.

i like my full laptops not those dinky netbooks. 15inch screens and above is all i like :banghead:

tried dell and that but they only give you the option to get windows.

Not having Windows is like a car without a steering wheel. Without it you wont be able to run a lot of programs for your classes.

If you want Linux instead, just buy a a Laptop for $500 and install Linux to dual boot just in case you need to use Windows.

FYI Win7 is probably a good idea.

i can run pretty much run all the windows programs i have in linux be it from wine/virtualbox. if i truly need windows on my laptop i have a copy of xp laying around that i could use.

another thing i could setup my desktop so i can control it from my laptop.

I think he was just trying to help you, and as far as I know you need to select an OS when buying a laptop. Otherwise, all the non-keyboard buttons would not have drivers and nothing would work.

Maybe you should try using google and search harder if you don't want the advice given here.

You can find some websites that sells laptops with Linux Operating System on them.

But still, since Linux is free why not just get a PC with the specs you are happy with and remove the windows partition right out of the hard disk?

The OP is looking to save money by not having to include an OS they won't use on their laptop. It's about a $80-$100 drop in price if Windows is not included.
