He has a middle aged computer and it's hybrid board

It has an AGP and PCI-E slot

DDR2 and DDR400 (2 slots each)

So has 2gb of ddr2 ram

8800gtx

320 gb hdd

and a pentium d 915 (775)

Like i said though, it's a hybrid board :3 (775DUAL-VSTA)

The processor gets him only a 4.6 on the rating

ram = 5.5
vcard = 7.0
hdd = 5.9

So he was wondering which processor for the 775 would be the best

Core2Quad Q8400 @ 2,66 is a great choice. I own one, and I'm really pleased with it.

Well I would think if a CPU has a higher FSB it would would underclock itself. Depends if the bios is updated or not.

Then again I only have experience in the AM3, AM2, AM2+, 1156, 478, and 1366.

I think hes aiming towards the e6800

the processor was made in Q3'10

and the board is old, but it's the same FSB max, and same slot obviously

any issues with compatibility?

Won't know for sure unless you can get the name of the motherboard and model number.

Nvm guess the 755Dual-vsta is the name

He's trying to find the best processor for the cash, the quad line is a little much for him

also the e6600 has a better score than the e6800, but is cheaper, my logic is defied

am I missing something?

Wait..... wut? AMD sockets are around for some time. Then they are backwards compatible. So if I had an AM2 socket board I could still run the Quad core I'm running now.

After the AM2 socket things became easy to manage.

the 478 socket wasn't any better on the Intel side.

You know, Windows Me wasn't as bad as people said it was, just Windows NT kicked as with Windows 2000. Windows Me was there last ditch effort for Dos, and failed :soosad:
