I'm bored with movies and tv-shows and I wanna watch some good documentaries. Anyone got any recommendations?

I've watched most of Louis Theroux' work and really liked it. Also seen BBC Planet Earth/Blue Planet/Life/Frozen Planet.
Not really into Michael Moore-style documentaries.

I don't wanna open a door to too much madness, but I'm also looking for a good conspiracy theory documentary. I have a few people around me that keep preaching this madness and their defense is always: just watch X or Y documentary man, it will open your eyes. Since they aren't full blown retarded I figure I should at least look at one.

So, got any recommendations?

This. Very interesting, though the main point of the doc is how the stock market crashed, why, and who.

I like survival documentaries :P They're series actually. I like Man vs. Wild the most (it's being broadcasted as Ultimate Survival in Holland on discovery channel).

Heh, yeah I've seen everything Bear Grylls has to offer. From the camel sandstorm shelter to the 'sheeping bag'.

I checked the Scientology one out. Didn't like it too much, felt like the dude was just busy clearing his own name trying to justify his poor work against the Church of Scientology earlier. (Not defending Scientology btw, they crazy).

I downloaded the Inside Job. Matt Damon got me excited, but I'm not too sure anymore.

There are a few ones about the downfall of the templars that I thought were really good, but I can't remember the titles exactly. I haven't seen a lot of conspiracy themed documentaries.
If you are interested in Chernobyl, White Horse is really good.
The most interesting one I've seen was about a man who filmed his 2 year old son while he was in the room with a mirror, but only at the end he told him: "That's you." and the way he looked at himself completely changed. I wish I remembered the title. I suppose I'm really bad with them.

I prefer it when he brings his wife so they can go bitch to each other while sitting at a tiny campfire.

Vice Guides to North Korea and Liberia - best docs ever, easily.

Watching 10 year old kids coke up and buy prostitutes? A guy who sacrifices young kids and eats their hearts? Awesome.

Liberia:

http://www.vice.com/the-vice-guide-to-t ... -liberia-1

Korea: http://www.vice.com/the-vice-guide-to-t ... rea-1-of-3

Then Madventures:

Cannibalism? Pissing into a human skull and drinking it? Killing a live chicken with your mouth and drinking its blood? Awesome.

Not for the weak, I guess (NSFL?)

5 minute clip from one of the 1 hour episodes.

Code: Select all

Other cool episodes include their visit to some Voodoo village where some kid flips out during a ceremony and kills a puppy with his teeth (IIRC), their visit to somewhere in South America where they get farked up on hallucinogenic plants, and the short special on eating one of their sister's placenta.

Watch the marketing one by the same guy, pretty interesting how it all works, it'll make you realize how much marketing there really is in movies and shows.

The vice ones were really good. Watched them back to back.
General Butt Naked... It almost seemed as if he indoctrinated everyone around him and they don't even know it.
Can anyone message me a link to watch Madventures in English?

You can find them on youtube, I believe most of their episodes are spoken in English, but they occasionally talk in another language, but it will have subs most of the times.

Crips and Bloods Made in America by History Channel is also a good one

Yeh..my description sounded more interesting though lol

Banged up abroad is entertaining. Its about how people get caught in other countrys trying to smuggle drugs and what not then they tell their story. Sometimes its about people getting captured as hostages and they somehow escaped etc..

Gangland is also cool. Just about gangs and the brutal things they do lol

I guess these are more series like but they are presented in a doco way

Just watched it it was really good.

"Bastards of the Party" seems like a good one that relates to the topic. But it was made by actual gang members.

If you haven't already you should really check out Louis Theroux. The one where he goes to a pedophile lock up is pretty good and the one about the Westboro Baptist Church is good too.

I have the whole Louis Theroux series, there's like 20 episodes.

One of my favorites is where he visits a farked up church in new York. They all dress like old Africans and believe in some white conspiracy. They say that a lot of the historical figures were actually black (Ben Franklin).

If you like Man vs. Wild check out Survivorman. It's a Canadian fellow that goes into the wilderness completely alone and films it himself. He stays out for 7 days and the only episode I've seen that he brought food was when he has in the Arctic.
