I tried this once before in other games forum but its a tad more quiet then here and really is more for electronic games least in my opinion anyways to jump right into it.

Who plays any?

i personally play MTG & Yu-gi-oh. i prefer Magic i find it a lot more casual and you can just chill for hours playing it. i have a Orzhov life-gain deck as my standard deck but my casual/modern deck is an aura deck, its not perfect but its fun, i play planechase with both my decks too when i can get enough people together.

Never got into trading card games. Kind of wish I could understand why people find the so fascinating. But eh.

For most the people that play it its not about collecting cards its about playing the game.

Collecting and playing are two different things a "card" Game is no different then playing poker or chess it just has different visual's i find it great fun to think up strats and create new decks and play with my friends.

I know, but the game itself doesn't seem much fun either.

I remember I was in a store back when the Yugioh anime hit big here in the states, those cards were going for 200$ each.

Have you ever given it a try?

It's a mix of gambling and strategy so quite naturally it can cause a bit of adrenaline to be released.
Card games are definitely fun if you're prepared to commit a little to it.

iv found Magic the Gathering one of the easiest games to get into aswell as fun to play for both casual and competitive people. for casual play the starter deck is all you need if you want more you can buy a Fat pack as it comes with 9 boosters, a box, a dice and a bunch of land. after that all over america, england and other countries there is events called Friday Night Magic usually only $5/£3-4 its not expensive. Most expensive part is getting a card pool to play with but you can just stick to a starter deck and play.

Aha okay! So.. in trading card games, the idea is to
battle against your opponent's cards?

yes in essence, the trading part comes in later if you want to better your deck, which you can gather a card pool just from taking part in booster drafts as you get 3 packs just for entering with extras if you do well. also means you get the basis for a deck going as you only pick colors from the packs you need. rather then buying 3 random packs and getting a lot of junk

I don't understand the fascination with it at all... especially for the people in their twenties and thirties...

for me, other then my social societies and such, its a conduit to meet new people and make new friends, for a game where the key is to find and challenge people. Making new friends is easy, it gives you a common ground. Also the game on its own is fun to play

When I think of card games, I think of how much money I invested into YuGiOh before when I was a kid...never again.

I stopped collecting Yu-Gi-Oh cards a few years back, but I still play with a bunch of friends. They still collect cards and have a whole bunch of decks so we will have drinks and play together every now and then. I've always had a thing for TCG's and have played a few online ones over the years.
