Whats with all these new classifications for heavy metal these days? All this "hardcore, metalcore, grindcore, core this core that bs"? It's like a couple years ago a bunch of kids decided they would spread these titles around trying to make sense of different sounding metal bands. Way back when, there was only a few genres in Metal. Stuff like Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, Death Metal, etc. Now there's like 500 categories, all of which are totally redundant. Hell, half the people that argue about whether a band is "metal" or "hardcore" for example, don't even really know what hardcore is supposed to be. Damned if I know either. So my point is, shut the hell up already! If it's heavy, has a mean sounding badass on the mic, and makes you want to kick someone's ass, then it's probably heavy metal. Not this hardcore metalcore core core core bull.

I personally think it's because of all the newer metal coming out these days. Bands like Fallout Boy and Avenged Sevenfold and crap like that. The vocalists sound especially whiney and un-metal, so people made new genres for them to fit in. But now the idiots out of the groups who listen to those bands are bleeding out into the "true" metal groups and calling em all these random ass genres. It's really getting ridiculous. Wikipedia has no mention of any of those new genres under it's article for "Heavy Metal". Probably because of the same reason I'm writing this mess. So seriously, stop arguing about the music and just enjoy it. \m/

Like I said this is a rant, if you don't like something I said... well that's for you to deal with.

Genre labels are for people who need to be told what music they like.

End of thread.

Alot of the metal genres have been around for years, the 80s even. People always used to argue about the difference between black and death metal. Most of the time though its only because the media wants everything to be generic, nothing can be origanal, if it is, it gets a new genre so it isnt anymore.

I class metal in 3-4 different genres.
Metal (obviously)
Heavy Metal
Medolic Death Metal
Death Metal

the sound gets heavier as you go down the list

I dont really give a crap about the other genres, those songs still fit pretty nicley into these genres.

Yeah I have no problems with rap, it's all the crap on MTV that gets on my nerves though. Can't be cool these days unless you do drugs, have 50 cars, and twice the women. God forbid you can be cool by making good music.

lol Yeah I take that back about Fallout Boy, they are more punk than anything. I just wanted to cover bases on two of the most recent bands I've come to despise. :D

I dunno bout most but it can't be argued that many have been inspired through drugs.

lol Well the ones that can do em, and still make *good* music are the true artists. Everyone else is just feeding off the image.
