THEY ARE GAY!

i have a sony desktop, and today i decided to do a major upgrade (vid card, RAM, motherboard---b/c i want PCI-E and DDR2 slots, power supply---b/c new vid card would need a lot more power than the one i have now. anyway, i went to the store, and asked about the stuff, until i realized THE STANDARD POWER SUPPLY IS TOO BIG TO FIT! :banghead: sony decided to use a small case with a special small power supply so that i can't replace it with standard ones :x :x :x

then the motherboard space is also too small for standard ones, grrrr... but that doesn't matter b/c no new PSU = no new vid card = no new motherboard = no new RAM

now i've decided to wait till aug to build myself a brand new computer with leet vid card and at least 4 gig of RAM ^^

Hey buddy I'm with you ^^

I got a MDG Computer with integrated graphic card. I wanted a better graphic card but it didn't have any slot for it! Also now my 2 x 512 mb RAM refuses to work with each other :banghead:

Don't get a super good computer when you go into University though Happy, you'll find yourself engaged with MMO and other games when you're supposed to be studying :P

Yea, you really shoulda checked with us beforehand. Usually Prebuilt pc's are in small cases (mini ATX i think). You should just custom build a new PC altogether.

Um why do you need 4 gb of ram? Do you do video editing? I'd recommend building in september since Intel will cut it's prices again. =D

So you will be using a 64 bit OS then right. Otherwise the OS won't recognize more than 3.2 gig.

I like my hp just fine. The case is also quite large, so I can upgrade in the near future if I want/need to.

I'd double check that, because my desktop dell was large too, but it still had a smaller psu and a smaller motherboard.

I don't exactly carry a ruler in my room, so tell me what exactly would be considered "good" dimensions.

I still dont understand why ppl buy premade pc's. It's so easy to put one together your self. Custom pc gives you much more room for tuning n upgrades. I'm a happy big tower owner myself :D Lian-Li PC75 ^^ filled beyond its limits xD Might extend it after this summer(cut other Li in half n put it on top) :]
I've never had brandnamed pc o.0

They make custom parts of a certain size, so you cant just go and buy any part off the shelf and upgrade. They make you do it thru the company and they charge you a ton for it. Anything can be like this. Hard drives with skewed mounting points and that are slightly wider than the standard drive bay, PSU's smaller than the standard ATX PSU's, Video cards with special brackets, motherboards with no expansion slots, etc.

These PC's are perfectly fine if you dont wish to mess with it, or need one for basic reasons.

If you do want to be able to upgrade when the time comes, then definetly build one yourself. There are plenty of people that can help.

The PSU's that are bundled with most cases are usually junk. You are far better off saving a few bucks on the case by trying to get it without a PSU and put the money you save towards a power supply that will do the job you need it to do. If you want a newer graphics card, then a no-name 400-450w PSU will end up as nothing more than a paper weight when you have to replace it.

well i know a case that comes with a pretty decent 600W PSU, and it's very quiet.
