Does anyone know how to reformat a emachine computer? Friend of mine gave me a comp that he wasn't using anymore so i thought it would be good if I used it to stall.

If you are going to reformat, make sure you have the original install disks because eMachines, like HP & Compaq, have a lot of proprietary hardware that you'll need the drivers for. Those drivers probably won't be on the manufacturers site as they hand-off support to eMachines. It's a pain to try and get drivers from eMachines' site so it's easier if you have the disks.
The hard drive may be partitioned and with a copy of the installation on the separate partition. In that case you won't need the installation disks.
You do a low level reformat of your hard drive using the drive manufacturer's software, but you'll lose the partition. Or you can do a high level reformat using windows or dos. You should have some familiarity with formatting drives and installing OS's before doing any of this.

if it has multiple hdd's, and you want to format the one the o/s isnt on. goto my computer, right click the drive, click format, voila.
if you want to format it with a new o/s, insert your o/s disc, press space when the pc starts, and select boot from cd. follow the instructions, when it comes to the partition screen, select the one with something on it, select format, then ntfs(quick) and thar she blows...

Seconded. If you don't even know what an operating system is, you have no business trying to install one.
Take it to your local PC shop, and pay them to do it. The money will be well worth the time you save by not having to deal with whatever mistakes you make (and you will make mistakes)
