After watching a few vids two things are really killing the GW2 vibe for me.
1. POTIONS!!!!!!! ANet WTF ARE YOU DOING TO MY GW
2. Skills, the new skill system seems like a serious blow to skill customization. You really only get to choose 4 skills cause you have to take a healing skill and the first 5 skills are given too you based on your weapon+class. Also, I very much hope that ANet will change Elite skills or at least have a much greater variety, because so far all of the elite skills we have seen have a 12 min. CD and that DRASTICALLY reduces customization and functionality of your skill build. From what I've seen so far I am really disappointed in ANet for their choices regarding the way skills work. It seems as though the skill system is really dumbed down system from the first GW, and is counterintuitive to ANet's goal of breaking the traditional rules of MMOs. GW was a game that prided itself on strategy and carefully selecting skills to suit whatever it is you want your build to do, now I fear that we are just going to have a bunch of cookie-cutter builds for each profession+weapon combo.
Other than those two things, GW2 looks like it is going two be a wonderful game with a lot of unique content and I am really looking forward to getting a chance to try it out for my self.

Omagash man, don't become like those GW2Guru QQers 1. Here's the thing. We have no idea how potions will be important. I really doubt it will be like SRO where you need to buy stacks and spam them. Someguy that went to Gamescon told us that he never had to watch his energy bar, so don't worry. 2. You do know we actually get more customisation from the GW2 system? You can switch weapons during combat and you already get a brand new set of skills. Considering every profession gets a different skillset even if they use the same weapon, you'll get a lot of choice. Also, if you played even a bit of PvP, then you'll know Cookie-Cutter builds do exist in GW1. How will cookie-cutter builds be any different than the one in GW1. I don't understand how you claim GW does not have cookie-cutter builds. GW2 has a lesser amount of skills because it was hell to balance the 1000+ Skills GW1 had. Every Balance Update PvP and PvErs would QQ. They learned from this and now they will have less skills, but more efficient ones. Even if GW1 had a shit load of skills, it didn't exactly promote "diversity" because the same builds are always used. If GW's skill system was known for its 1000+ Skills & Diversity, GW2's skill system will be known for being able to switch weapon and gaining another set of 5 Skills right off the bat. Most of the customisation will come from Traits, that it what I believe will really make your build different. Maybe you'll specilize on making the bleed on your Gash longer? Maybe concentrate on a Snares and make your Water Trident slow for longer with a certain Trait. Sorry for the huge paragraphs but I just don't see how GW2's Skill System will have less versatility. Just by switching weapons you already have more skills to use than in GW1. The only point I'll agree with you on are the Elites. The 12mins CD on the Tornado was scary. Dunno if it was a random number for the demo or something =/ .

Didn't install GW on my new laptop yet so no builds But for PvE the obvious build would be Moebius, it just rapes. I also remember using a awesome Way of the Assassin build, pwnt Palm Strikers

Dunno if it was a random number for the demo or something =/ . First off I never claimed that GW didn't had cookie-cutter builds. I have played HA and I know that if your build is anything other than meta you will get kicked. My problem with the skill system and potions is that in my eyes it seems that ANet is dumbing the game down in certain areas. In GW1 part of the challenge of the game was being able to balance skill usage so that you can still accomplish whatever it is your build does without going OOM. Now with potions in the game and such a giant energy pool people can just spam away and if they get in trouble with energy they can just pop a potion and keep going. If they must have potions in the game I believe that we all can agree that players SHOULD NOT be able to use them in pvp. For the skill system, I agree with you that overall we do have more customization, but within each profession+weapon combo I still believe that we have less customization. This is because each weapon is sort of "locked" into a certain playstyle. In GW1 if I wanted to use a sword I could specialize in multiple things with that sword. In GW2 it seems like if I want to use a sword I am specializing in conditions per say and now I am just choosing skills to complement the first 5 skills they give me, and if I want to inflict AoE damage I am forced to switch weapons. Overall it just seems like ANet is dumbing down the skill system. I am not saying that we go back to the 1000+ skill system we had before, but I believe that with the idea of fewer, more potent skills that ANet said it was moving towards, we could still craft a build to accomplish what ever it is we want to do.

With Charrs flying around going rambo, then twisting, etc.

Only used to play factions, gettin the whole GW experience and playin till GW2 comes. No matter the changes, Im sure they'll take their time and do it right. They know what they're doing and are taking the time to do it well.

GW2 seems really promising, can't wait until it's out. Curious how the Hall of Monuments and the titles and stuff will correspondent with GW2. hitokiri wrote: Only used to play factions, gettin the whole GW experience and playin till GW2 comes.
