All I really have to say is if you play with a Ranked team, communicate with your buddies so you don't end up tossing your target in the wrong direction. Nothing more annoying than that. Let your laning partner get the last hits on minions and avoid taking kills from him. You're pretty much assuming the role of a babysitter.

general game tips/halp with ali please? besides throwing him in the jungle. Alistar has an extremely strong early game. At level 2 he has 2 cc spells (headbutt/pulverize) and he is very tanky. If you're playing with an AD carry with good early damage you should try to aim for an early kill. There is no other support that is stronger than you in the early game (Janna would be annoying though) so take advantage of this. A good way of taking advantage of your early game is by doing golems (if you're blue side) before you go to your lane to get an xp advantage. You will be level 2 earlier than the enemy, and they will have even fewer escape options. Of course, some general support rules apply: 1) WARD WARD WARD WARD. You should always carry wards and you should aim to also always have wards up on the map. (Dragon ward is usually the most important, aim to always have it up) 2) Don't take away farm from your AD carry. You are the support, you support by giving as much gold as possible to your AD carry, this means you let him kill the minions. Don't 'help' in killing minions either, don't touch them if he is there. (edit: you are allowed to help when the minions are pushed up to your tower and your ad carry can't do enough dmg to finish the minions off. Prepare the minions by hitting the ranged creeps a single time, granted that your minions aren't already damaging that minion) I was going to write more, but then I realized you're much better off listening to someone who really knows his shit: http://www.solomid.net/guides.php?g=9131

Watching streams really helps out too. Afterwards, apply what you saw and try to imitate their playstyle as best you can. Time management is probably most important. Why run around the map when you could be farming. Always look for the next place to clear creeps, make use of the jungle by killing camps when they are up.
When laning, only attack when you are in an advantageous position. If you're coming out of the fight with less hp, you must be able to sustain yourself in lane much more than the other guy especially if he has low cooldowns. When you don't take control of the lane from the very beginning, your opponent will. I like to call it playing smart assertive. Never put yourself in a position where you can be killed. If you know you cannot win exchanges then don't exchange at all and farm. If you are not dying and winning in creep score then you are winning the lane. You have more gold than the other guy and the advantage will eventually lead to better items and further snowballs the lane in your favor.

alright, thanks for all the tips guys - and the guide link. i usually watch oddone/dyrus stream when i can. always have enjoyed watching high level people play games of anything that i enjoy myself.
definitely need to get better at cs when i'm not supporting, i'm usually not behind much in my current games but that's because the people i'm playing are as low level and bad as i am. i'm doing a little better with ali recently, i still struggle with hitting the W->Q combo consistently. might try not smartcasting my W when i use him and see if it helps me any.

True,
Sometimes you can get stuck with really sucky teams. However, that's part of the fun of ARAM.
For me im using it to try new Game Styles. I'm a Tank heavy player, don't dabble much in AD and hardly ever AP.
However, i bought out all the 450 ip champs, and some of the 1350 champs. Trying to get a feel for other playstyles.

ARAM, fun or frustration... getting 3 teamcompo's in a row with absolutely no range or harras... that's a nice fight..
I like if becuz u don't have a "role" to fulfill and i get to play around with champs i normally don't play. But getting crap teamcompo's just ruins the fun
and their "random" is bugged too in over 150+ arams i keep getting the same 20 champs (own 78 champs)
and most frustrating of all: the leavers don't get a champ i wanna play with at random game, leave game... Just play blind pick then ffs

Jax is absolutely broken in proving grounds. When ever I get him he becomes unstoppable after his 3rd item.

I guess I'm the only one that plays Dominion. It may seem mindless initially but high elo Dominion is very competitive and the mode overall contains a lot of depth.

Dominion is dominated by speedy champs with burst and escape. Fizz, Akali, and Jax are absolutely, ridiculously over powered in dominion

I play a lot of Dominion with my roommate and we do pretty well (>70% winrate). We only play Pantheon and Nidalee and I laugh my ass off at all the max range spears and how ridiculous Pantheon's E is early game. Dominion is fun, but it's not as skilled as summoner's rift. I disagree that Akali and Fizz are overpowered on Dominion. There's so many bruisers in Dominion that it's hard for them to gib something. Their early game is terrible compared to most Dominion-bruisers and they're really squishy. If you want to play an AP carry in Dominion I feel you need a champion with strong poke, not something that has to jump in with 3 bruisers.

Much of what is said about Dominion is untrue. WoutR seems to be the only one with extensive experience.
If a new player were to to play Summoner's Rift, would it be wrong to say that Summoner's Rift is nothing but a boring farmfest? Or how about the fact that snowballing is so bad in SR that comebacks in competitive play are a rare occurrence. Dying once or twice basically means your lane is lost and typically the team that gains even a small lead goes on to win the game. In solo queue, deviate from the "meta" and people will trash talk you and even report you. SR may be the more popular mode but it still has a bit of work to do before it can be a better competitive game than Dota.
I personally don't find being stuck in a 40min+ game that was over at 20mins but my teammates won't surrender to be fun nor competitive. At least in Dominion, if I get stuck with retards I'm only stuck with them for 20mins.
I also don't think one mode requires more skill than the other or that one mode is better. Dominion has its problems but Summoner's Rift also has its problems.
Regardless, for anyone interested in playing Dominion on a skill leveled, here is an excellent guide and a very accurate tier list. Both guides are composed by the highest rated Dominion player.
With the Eve and Twitch rework done, the Xin rework done, and Zyra coming, things will be very interesting next patch. Who will be the new troll pick now?

Well if you want to play/see a game where comebacks are encouraged, you should try Dota2. Most of Riot's ideas are taken from Dota anyways, even Evelynn's stealth rework is based on an item in dota2 (smoke of deceit) that is basically provide's Evelynn's new passive but can be used in an aoe to get all of your team invisible.

You still see a lot of comebacks regularly in both the competitive and the casual scene.
Maintaining a positive attitude and avoiding "the rage" is rewarded often.
I do agree that you often get punished greatly for a small mistake, but that's what raises the skill cap of the game. Where would be the fun otherwise? The game is pretty easy as it is, there must be room for improvement to make it competitive.

Glad to come back to the game once I got a new gaming set-up.
New champs are fun like Varus and Volibear.
