when ur guardian is on, right click it and it should go to him/her and u should get a new red buff in return which gives u 10% exp bonus.

if 24 hours is up, u lose it and it goes down to 0. a guild mate had that problem but it let him use it after an hour.

you need to left click on it not right

you'll get a window that asks if you want to send it to your guardian
press yes
