I am paranoid really. If i get hacked i quit. there's no coming back for me cos i play legit.
For me the highest likelihood of getting hacked is by being keylogged. My question is, how do you get keylogged? i know that one way is if you dl suspicious .exe files and run it. but what about just random web browsing? sometimes unintentionally you end up at nasty sites with lots of popups and scripts running in background. Can you get a keylogger installed that way without you knowing? how do you know if you have one?

Just keep away from suspicious sites and downloadable files, Do a weekly scan and you should be just fine. :]

basicly get a good antivirus.
dont download ANTHING over msn/yahoo/aim etc. make sure you only download of trusted sites, and know what your downloading. virus scan all your downloaded files. virus scan your pc weekly. try to format your pc every year (i do it every 3 months).
some good antivirus are:
avg free (free)
avast! (free)
clamwin (free)
good paid ones are:
kaspersky
nod32
---- stay away from norton, it will slow down your pc, costs tooo much money, gives false alarms, and cant detect ice embedded viruses.
also, a firewall will help.
a good cheap one (i work in a pc shop and we put this on peoples pc's) is zonelabs/zonealarm firewall

Also, switch to Firefox for every website except those that you ABSOLUTELY MUST run IE for (Silkroad's own, stupidly enough, Microsoft's updates, things like that), use the above mentioned antivirus, keep HijackThis and Spybot S&D on hand. Don't trust anything you see, and only download when you are certain it will have no negative effects on your PC.
Alternatively, switch to linux. Good luck getting malware on it, just have to deal with a lack of games (although a little WINE goes a long way. SRO works great under it though)

nothing to do with zonelabs. if zonelabs slows your computer you must have the worlds shiytest pc. seeing as zonelabs only requires 128mb of ram, and silkroad needs even more than that.
you porbably need to format your pc, or atleast download and run jkdefrag.

Everyone is giving good suggestions, but few are actually answering his questions.
To answer 1 of your questions you can get keylogged/virus from files that aren't .exe You could dl a picture and have it attached. It will still look like a jpeg.
Can anyone answer his other question about getting keylogged from a website? Can a website download a program onto your computer without asking you first, assuming you have administrator status?

Like I said, don't use IE. This happens all the time. Ever heard of ActiveX?

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions everyone.
Yes, i know of ActiveX. I also know how to disable ActiveX scripting from IE. but trouble is, many legit websites require ActiveX. Disabling it completely isnt really a solution.

And nonsense- the only ActiveX sites I see anymore are ones for MMOs. Most actual sites make an effort to not be amazingly and annoyingly flashy for ease of use and portability.
