1. What do i need to become a theif.
2. How does it all work.
3. Would you think it would be a good extra job, like would I get enough profit.
1. You will first need:
- Take a trip to the theif town. THe Theif NPC is around the Barron Street (spelling?) text in Jangan (2k)
- 1 Theif Suit of your gender (10k)
- Bandit Den Return scrolls (1k each) I'd say get 5+ just to last you for a bit.
- 3-4 Transports in inventory, perhaps 2 of each per trip. (~1.2k each)
- 3-4 Horses in inventory (1.2k each)
- 50 Small pill potions for transport (~10k)
2. How it all works is like this:
- There are 1* traders that you cannot attack directly.
- There are 2* or more traders that you can attack directly.
- People who have 1* usually don't have protection, but there are a lot of low levels that do bring along a friend or two for fun.
- People who have 2* or more usually have decent protection, hunters, helping them so they usually stand out.
- As a theif you can attempt to kill any hunter on sight or any trader without a transport or with an empty transport.
- The reverse is true, they can attempt to kill you as well.
- You can either find a 2*+ convey to attack directly or go around looking for goods on the ground. Once you have goods in your transport, you will right click on the bandit scroll to begin warping back to the bandit town. Now, you just have to hide/run long enough to keep yourself alive.
3. There is no profit in lower level theifing. The time it takes just to theif free goods will net you around 17k at lower levels and slighty more into the higher 2Xs. Not to mention the fact that you will undoubtly get killed many times, thus the cost of potions and repairs willl ad to your tab. If you want to make a profit, stick to trading or grinding.
Now, if you decide to start theiving here are some tips:
1. NEVER run around in your theif suit unless you have a death wish. Never.
2. Get a low level weapon (18-21) and have it equipped while you are not in your theif suit. People usually notice weapons, so if they see a person with a low weapon, they think less of them as a threat. If you are ready to theif, only equip before you attack and don't take it off again. If you die you don't want to drop your real weapon.
3. Notice the other person's gear. Know what weapons correspond to what levels. If you are a 2X theif you definitly don't want to be taking on a multistar with someone that has a lunar blade (3X), moon glaive (4x), etc...
4. Notice the transport they are using. If it says thoroughbred that means they are ~30-44. If you are a mid to low 2X theif, that means you can't take them alone. So don't bother trying. If you Bachacian Camel (spelling wrong) that also means ~30-44 so don't bother. Anything that "looks" nicer means off-limits - white horse, indian camel, iron claud horse, fire ox (lol).
5. Just because you see 2 npcs spawn, it doesn't mean it's a 2*. There is something called "double spawns" to which an extra theif spawns. Watch 2-3 npc spawns while scouting before committing to an attack.
6. Plan your attack when NPC's spawn. Go for the most powerful player first, then any help, then finish off npcs and mobs. Finally take out the transport.
7. Don't pick up loot more *'s than you can handle. I saw on alps the other day a low 3X picked up 5* worth of stuff. He couldn't kill the theives fast enough at the rate they were spawing. At one time I swear he had about 15 attacking his horse. To which, after it died, he hauled outta there.
8. Don't be afraid to berserk and haul out of there if you get outmatched or can't kill. Better to live and fight another day then waste a death.
9. Patience is what keeps smart theifs alive and noob ones dead. Always scout out the area you are going to attack in, know how you are getting away, and anything else that concerns yourself.
10. Don't attack a multi* on a highly populated area. People *will* help the hunters and possible even attack your, getting offender status. It's in people's nature to help the "good guys", so be prepared for that. People will follow you and lead high level hunters to where you are.
11. Don't ever take another theif's goods. Espeically if they are higher level. I have lot's of funny stories of stuff I've seen on this issue. Just don't do it lol.
12. If anyone asks what level you are, don't answer. They are sizing you up to know if they can take you. I watched as a noob hunter and trader left Donwhang last night. THe trader had 3* and the hunter was a 2X int, who TOLD 2 guys on 3X horses she(avatar) was 24. I knew right away they were theifs. They let them get a decent distance, then robbed them.
13. If anyone is following you, or you see other people following the trade convey, they are theives! That is not to say they don't have a hunter suit handy to make sure they or their friends can't get the goods. More funny stories about this topic too. If possible theif with a friend who has a hunter + theif card and is a decent level.
14. Carry around a hunter card too. It's good for pwning low level theifs, and then taking their goods.
15. Theiving is for fun, not for profit (at low levels), so if you don't like being called names, getting mean messages, etc... don't bother with it. The time and money is spent better elsewhere.
That's about it for now, I'm sure I've got tons more somewhere in my mind lol. That should be enough to get you started though. Just remember that the idea of a theif sounds a lot cooler than it really is. Even at low levels you will have a high failure rate and probabally get disuaded from trying. Either wait until you are a higher level or bear it out. Good luck! If you have any other specific questsions, I'm sure there are a lot more experienced theives around this forum
