From what I've read for the purpose of SP Farming and being able to maximize a character, I shouldn't put all my points into the main Tree Masteries. There is about 6-8 level difference betwen skill Mastery and a person's level to optimize SP gain. If I understood those correctly.
Should I still be leveling up the skills books themselves as long as I have sufficient Skill Mastery level to do it. For example if I am level 18, with a Heuksal Skill Mastery of 12. Then I should level up Dancing Demon Spear to level 2 and Wolf Bite to level 4?
Am I understanding that correctly?

To maximize your SPs gain, leave the gap (difference between your level and the HIGHEST mastery level) at 9. For example: if you're lv 18, leave the highest mastery level at 9. You can have all the masteries, though not recommended, at level 9.
With that being said, you can add all the available skills that are available at mastery 9.
My advice is to go with bow if you are going to farm for a month or two. Save you the time to run from mob to mob. Later after you reach 20, you can do a quest to delevel your bow mastery.
