I am tempted to buy a Grey Wolf but the thing is, you have to feed it and when you have to revive it, it costs 50K!
I know I sound lazy, but in my history with MMORPG, I've never been good with money. I usually make little profit or no profit at all after going out hunting.
I heard though that the Wolf's hunger recharges when he levels or is away.
So can I sort of unsummon him when his hunger is low and resummon him when his hunger is back?
What's cheaper, feeding him or reviving him. If reviving him is cheaper, than wouldn't it be better to just not feed him, let him die, go back to town and revive him? Though I don't get 50K a lot.
All in all, can someone please tell me the best way to own a Wolf? The pros and cons? I'm currently looking at other sites for info but most of them are not answering my problem.

well first of all a wolf is a very high maintenance thing to buy.
you have to buy it potions, pills, and food.
First off if you buy a wolf i suggest buying 50 of those food things for the wolf. Secondly you might need to buy about 100 small/medium HP potions from the stable, along with about 50 status potions. When you go out training and you see its food bar is almost at nothing, thats when you feed it. Don't feed it if its diminished just a little bit. As for resurrecting a a wolf, 50k is a lot of money so i recommend to keep it alive as long as you can.
As for money just do some trade runs to get some cash then you can either buy some items for low prices, make them blue and sell them for higher, or the usual grind method. Depending on what server you are on i might be able to help you out in the money department

^I don't suggest you get a wolf if you cant afford 50k then, you should have at least 500k-2mill post buying the wolf.. or you will find yourself with quite a lot of financial problems. (that is, if you want to look after yourself as well... buying pots/new weapons/armor)
btw, what lvl are you? If you are lvl 30+ , you should be able to to make 50-600k easy by npc'ing drops. Or stalling.. but I'm too impatient to do that lol. Although the best method to save money would be to not let your wolf die at all.

DO NOT BUY IT!
Unless you already have an extra 2 million gold or so.

Yep whats been said is what i always say when pepl ask about buying wolves DONT unless u got 500k to spare afterward at least. Wolves are expensive, but theyre very useful, at least to me. An extension of your will to assist in killin the millions of mobs u gotta kill in SRO :p + pepl jus love to see a full grown wolf runnin with ya . Neway dude unsummmoning just puts it in stasis i.e. hunger bar stops decreasing but it doesnt regen. So its either feed, lvl or kill it XD. Up to say 30 u can lvl it easy without feeding. After that well yeh ull hafta feed. Now really which do you think is more cost effective: lettin it die an buyin grass o life or w/e its called 50k or buy at most 9 hunger pots 2k by 9=18k hmmm this ones hard . At anyrate (i never let mine die of hunger so not sure) I highly doubt reviving it from 0 hunger will giv it more than 10% hunger back, which results in you STILL buying 18k worth of hngr pots. YUMMY 68K gone down the tubes :p. As an end note dont let your wolf drop below 30% cus then its stats cut in half THE POOR THINGS STARVED WHAT DO YOU EXPECT and itll most likely die from gettin mauled by mobs cus its got half its original defense :p before it can even starve to death. Just feed it an its stats will return to normal.
A nice feature would be to have different types of attack pets (tigers, gators, etc.) like how you have so many types of grabber animals I want a mujigi ^_^

^they are pretty useful if you have a build that doesnt have ranged attacks (bladers namely)
Because if you are a ranged attacker (archer/nuker), most of the time, you'll kill the monster before your wolf even gets to attack. Although, if your wolf does get to attack, the more damage, the better, right?

Hmmmm... I see...
Well right now I'm in Rome as you can see from my signature. I have nearly 500K in my storage for safe keeping. In most MMORPGs, money in my storage will never be spent unless for REALLY REALLY important things.
I'm level 22 right now and I use a bow.
I thought that your Wolf gets EXP no matter who kills the enemy, you or the wolf.
I gues I can train it at white tigers area since I don't kill them in 1 hit. The tigers always get to attack me at least once.
BTW, when you "feed" the wolf, does it restore its hunger bar completely or just a little bit?
And from the looks of it, the Wolf has a HP bar and a hunger bar huh?
Man, owning a wolf IS high maintenance =S
I guess I should wait until I have 2 mil in the storage and I'm able to do trades.
I should find some topics with trading tips.
Thanks again for the replies guys!

wolf does get EXP when either u or it or both kill the mob
it does NOT take away exp gainage
the hunger pots restore 10% of the hunter bar
and yes, you should have some backup money to take care of it, my bckup was 1 mil in the storage
i think that 500k bckup is overexaggerated at lower lvls. I bought 30 hunger pots and 50 horse pills and have not used any hunger pots and very little horse pills. however, i HAVE used the grass of life more than once, and the 50k wasted is annoying
i think that when u first buy a wolf, u only need 200-300k bckup and at higher lvls u should have more money and enough to maintain your wolf

I think usually up to level 30, wolves level quickly enough that their hunger bar doesnt go down all the way.

Thanks for that information.
I decided that I will save up to get a wolf. I want to have around 1 mil in my storage for backup. I currently have a Male Red Flag and I hear it sells for 500K - 1mil ^^.
After that, I will buy the required pots and such and train the wolf. My plan is, when I am low on money, I will unsummon him and wait till my money goes up again. When it does, I will summon him again.
I think that will work for me ^^
Thanks again guys.

I would recommend that you get it as soon as possible. it will lvl at the same rate as you and besides its hungers will only start to drop quicker at high lvls mabye 30-35 so by that time u would have saved for grass and all that. so i say get it.

I don't mind my wolf, its cute rather strong and fast, but its died nearly 10 times do the maths thats alot of gold^^ 50k per Grass of Life x10 = 500k gone on reviving my little wolf + theres the food, pills, pots. Still i love my wolfie (i call it a dog)

Post subject: Is getting a wolf worth it? Posted: Sat Dec 09, 2006 6:49 am |

This thread has been very helpful. I'm only 15th level and grinding away slowly. I see lots of people with small wolf cubs but few grown ones. I was wondering if getting one was worth it. People seem to enjoy getting their cute little "doggy" but can't hack the responsibility of it later on. I have I think 3 black devil suits from the event and a wrong sex red flag as well as 150000 gold stashed away. I could get a wolf if I sell all that right. I'm a moderately careful player who usually only dies when I get to close to thieves that spawn near caravans and one of them decides to wack me instead. I think I will when I can get a good price for the devil suits. I'm a blader mostly, but planning on being a healer also.
