Post subject: Asking for help with some simple questions... Posted: Mon Feb 05, 2007 10:13 pm |

Hi, I'm new to the site and to the game. I've tried to read a lot of the posts and guides, and I want to check my understanding of some of the basics and make sure I have my facts straight. Am I correct in the following...
1. Putting points in STR increases both physical damage and defense against physical damage, while INT does the same for magic.
2. If I am using a blade (or sword) and shield, then putting points in STR has no effect on lightning, fire, or ice damage, but only increases damage done by the bicheon attacks.
3. Shields and parrying blocks/reduces only physical damage.
4. (this one is actually a question) After you choose your weapon and armor type in character creation, is there any way to change either of these?
5. Which does more damage...a sword doing lightning attacks, or a blade doing bicheon attacks?
6. For strictly PvE, do you face a substantial amount of magic damage so that protector is the best armor choice, or is armor better for PvE?
I appreciate any help you all can give. Thanks for your time.
(I've numbered the questions to make responding easier.)

If I am using a blade (or sword) and shield, then putting points in STR has no effect on lightning, fire, or ice damage, but only increases damage done by the bicheon attacks. Correct. Putting points into INT or raising the Light/Fire/Cold mastery level will increase the damage done by imbues and nukes 3. Shields and parrying blocks/reduces only physical damage. This im not too sure on, but i know you can block a nuke with a shield. I would think parry reduces overall damage taken by either str or int based attacks 4. (this one is actually a question) After you choose your weapon and armor type in character creation, is there any way to change either of these? This can be changed at any point in the game 5. Which does more damage...a sword doing lightning attacks, or a blade doing bicheon attacks? Not really sure what you mean by lightning attacks. Both sword and blade both use the bicheon tree. Swords have a higher magic damage, thus preferred by int based characters, and blades have a higher physical damage, thus preferred by str based characters. Same goes for spear/glaive, Spear is magic based while glaive is physical based 6. For strictly PvE, do you face a substantial amount of magic damage so that protector is the best armor choice, or is armor better for PvE? The majority of mobs in the silkroad world are physical. That being said though, i dont think armor is best for PvE because it does not offer the extra speed or mp consumption bonus that protector (10%) and garment (20%) give. Ive been protector based most of the game because my character is a hybrid. If you are making a pure STR, i would go with garment, and a pure INT, i would go armor. Protector is a happy medium

1.Yeah, just note that magic damage is wayyy more then phsicial damage. no matter what you need to get an imbue or you wont make it.
2Not positive but i believe when you level up you automaticly get a little bit of addition(points i suppose) to both types, before you even distribute your points. so, yeah youd definatley be getting alot more phsiical damage bonus, but you still want to use an imbue, (just making sure you know cause ive met many new players who dont) imbue will still be like 60% of your damage even as a pure str with a blade.
3. Shield blocks blocks ALL damage, but not every time.
4.yes. you can use and wear any weapon or gear as long as you meet the level requirement and the gender requirement. theres no penalties for using a weapon or gear besides the ones you started with, just be sure to stick to one so you can get the skill tree up and dont waste alot of sp.
5. Not sure what you mean, you mean lightning imbue? the bicheon skill will probably do more then a regular hit with the lightning, but you SHOULD use both as that will do the maximum damage.
Just note that these are my observations, if anyone wants to correct me feel free.

Thank you both for the very useful info. Let me clarify one of my earlier questions...
Scenario #1 - If a person is (for example) 80 STR and 80 INT, and executes the thunder force attack (the first attack in the lightning force skill)...will he do more damage with a sword or a blade?
Scenario #2 - same as #1, except say that the person is 100 STR and 60 INT...which weapon will do more damage here?
Scenario #3 - (regarding changing armor/weapon type) Let's say that I start a character as blade with armor. Later I start equipping him with a sword and garment. After I do this, I complete a quest giving a weapon as a reward. Originally, this quest would have given me a blade. Will it now give me a sword? (and does the same apply to armor type?)

@Nin
#2 Yes, everytime you level, your character automatically gets +1 to both str and int and then 3 more points to spend as you wish.
@ocheagle
Not sure how to answer Scenarios 1 and 2. For the 3rd one though, I'm assuming you're talking about the Yeoha/Exorcist quest. AFAIK, the weapon you get depends on the weapon you are currently holding at the time of completion(when you talk to her to end the quest). So if you were holding a sword at the time of completion, then you'd get a sword from the quest.

Actually, I havent gotten to that quest yet. I did a low level quest killing some little tree creatures. When I created my toon, I chose blade, however, I was holding a sword at the time. When I finished the quest, I was rewarded with a blade. I guess this is what has me concerned about changing weapon/armor types...the quest rewards.

scenario 1 i would think sword because it has a higher magical attack and since your stats are equal, the magic would overpower the physical.
scenario 2, i would think the opposite because the str heavily outweighs the magic.
scenario 3, you dont get many quests that give you items, so dont worry about it. The only thing that determines what weapon you use are where you choose to put your mastery points.
