STR Gives you more HP
INT Gives you more MP

Both Directly affect your damage output and damage intake

The more INT/STR you have the more damage you will do with a particular kind of weapon

Phy. Atk = [Phy. attack power + (Str stat * Phy. Reinforce)] * [1 + weapon mastery/100]

Mag. Atk = [Mag. attack power + (Int stat * Mag. Reinforce)]

PURE builds only put all stat points into either INT or STR

INT is mainly used for magical attacks whereas
STR is used for physical attacks

Physical attacks crit for more and a lot higher ergo the more STR you have the higher you will crit on the damage spectrum.

Hope this answers a few questions for you.

STR Build weapons are usually GLAIVE, BOW, or BLADE
INT Build weapons are usually SPEAR or SWORD

And for the europeans, It comes here:

Rogues (Crossbow+Daggers) = Strenght (pure)
Warriors(axes,2handsword,1handsword) = Strenght (pure)

Warlocks, Wizards, Clerics, Bards = Intelligence (pure)

There is NO need to go hybrid for the classes of the europeans... Either they deal magical(int) damage or physical(str) damage, while the chinese can use fire, lightning or ice to boost their attack

This game balances by letting you choose lots of health or lots of damage.
The more int you have the harder you hit and the faster you die.

For your first character you should go pure, all int or all str. If you decide you want a hybrid you can always go hybrid later. If you start as a hybrid you can never become pure.

Just adding to Xanovaria's post,

High Int = High Mag defense
High Str = High Phy defense

But you can also adjust this depending on what you equip. Eg if you put all your points in Str, you can wear garms to raise your mag def (it would never be as high as a pure int char wearing garms).

Very true.
I forgot the formula for reinforce on your gear but INT/STR as Sylhana said does directly effect your defensive capabilities.
