LOL harsh but i agree.

GOOGLE is your friend.

"This is system memory that is simulated by the hard drive. When all the RAM is being used (for example if there are many programs open at the same ..." from http://www.satech.com/glosofmemter.html

Applications themselves don't use virtual memory. That is the job of the Operating System (OS). The OS swaps pages of memory out to temporary storage on the hard drive when those pages are not needed, to make more room in RAM for processes that need it.

So basically, SRO uses virtual memory if and only if the OS decides to make it so.

As Prometheus pointed out, SRO may, but only if your main memory is being used.

Can it wreck a computer??? No. Virtual memory use can, over a long period of time, use lots of hard drive space and make it slower, and maybe increase the possibility of hard drive failure...so, maybe a .001% chance of it failing in 3 years, during which you'd probably fill it up anyway and get a new drive. Ok, I'm rambling, the answer is still NO.

First thing in computer troubleshooting: Identify what changed MOST recently. Something must have, if SRO has been on there for months, and your computer is beginning to be slower, I would say most likely it is not SRO.

Other things to check: the space on your hard drive, the less there is, the slower the hard drive and commensurately the slower your PC. How much RAM do you have? Have you scanned for spyware lately? Viruses?

Owning a computer is similar to owning a car. It must be maintained for it to run well.

Also, assuming it's a Windows system, you should defragment your hard drive maybe every couple weeks or monthly or so depending on how much the hard drive is used (adding/deleting files, install/uninstall software...). NTFS, and especially FAT32, tend to fragment a lot.

Ext2, ext3, reiserfs, and the like, not so much. :-)
