OS: WIN 98: Pentium 4 HT 2.8Ghz, GeForce FX5200, Direct X 9.0c. res 1024X768, latest nvidia drivers

Silkroads been working fine for months, with no change, I.E playing it at night the computer being shut down all night and then a little bit of internet browsing, when I go to load up Silkroad I get an illegal operation, This program has caused an error message and it crashes.

I uninstalled silkroad and reinstalled it to no effect,
rebooted the router, etc, added "222.111.150.111 gwgt1.joymax.com" to my host files etc.

Any ideas whats causing the problem?

If you reinstalled I assume you've also rebooted. Try running spybot and ad-aware, clear your internet cache and cookies, run an anti-virus scan. Did you install any new software between your last successful login and the error message?
