The thing don't prevent bots.

The game was better off without it running taking up your cpu and ram.

Most people don't have problems with Gameguard. Either you are unlucky or you are trying to do something you shouldn't. Either way, get over it.

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameGuard

Quote:
GameGuard is an application bundled with multiplayer games which hides the game application process, monitors the entire memory range, terminates applications defined by the game vendor and INCA to be cheats, blocks certain calls to DirectX functions, and auto-updates itself.

The driver is installed as a system service. Even when Gameguard and the multiplayer game are closed, the driver continues to run. The driver is accessible under all accounts and is activated at every boot. It does not uninstall when the application is removed and in fact will not even uninstall if selected in Device Manager and told to uninstall. The driver must be deleted manually, and the registry must be edited to remove the remaining reference.

This program leaves a computer running Windows 2000 or XP exposed to the vulnerability of unprivileged arbitrary read/write access.

How It Work Look Here: http://eng.nprotect.co.kr/nprotect_gameguard.htm

So simply, GameGuard is like the Anti-Virus or the Anti-Spyware programs that use the definition list from the company to block the bot programs. That's mean the new bots will not be able to block anyways. And since the company that create this program located in Seoul, Korea. Therefore, the bots that created by programmers outside Korea will take time to make the company realize those programs are bots and block them.

Also, GameGuard don't update the definition often. Therefore, bots are really easy to continue on.

Here is the compare & contrast of GameGuard

Advantages:
*Block most bots and macro programs (old one)
*Players must clost those programs in order to play the game.

Disadvantages:
*Hide the game client from the "Processes" tab in Task Manager
*Use more resource & CPU.
*Unable to protect new bots
*Unable to open 2 clients at once, since GameGuard not allow to do that.
*Exposed to the vulnerability of unprivileged arbitrary read/write access (Windows 2000/XP)

I can say that it is NOT really affect me whatever GameGuard is there or not. I don't like only one thing about GameGuard is it doesn't allow to open 2 clients from the same game or different games that also use the GameGuard.

Sincerely, Pan2006 (April 20th, 2006)

Get rid of it!! I can't use my Gkeys on my G15 :( The beauty it would be to have all my buffs tied to 1 key.

I guarantee you there are better ways for you to speed up your system than removing GameGuard. The fact that you don't know what's really slowing you down doesn't mean you can place all the blame on one application. The weaknesses of GameGuard are not sufficient reason to remove it when we have nothing better to use instead. And I would not list the inability to open 2 clients at once as a disadvantage. As far as I'm concerned each player should only ever have one character active at a time.

I can see two reasons for someone to want GameGuard removed. One is that they want to do something illicit which GameGuard is blocking. The other is that they don't understand how it works and are blaming it for their own performance problems rather than learning how to solve some of the performance problems that come from running Winblows.

GameGuard is stopping me from playing the game altogether, isn't that good enough reason to get gameguard removed?

No. Gameguard does not prevent the vast majority of legit players from playing Silkroad.

I have no troubles with Gameguard, it hasn't prevented me from playing and even if it uses more CPU/RAM all you have to do is close a few programs.

And truth be said, WinXP sucks at multitasking. :P

Gameguard keeps me from playing the game alltogether... and when i do get to play the sound wont work...

It deletes a required system process and makes me shut down and restart. process name is services.exe (used to open and close windows, processes, ect.) and then a window pops up saying that my computer will shut down in 60 seconds.

I know it is game guard becuase i get the same message when gameguard loads for maplestory

**edit**
no i dont plan on hacking or nothin... i just wanna b able to log on -_- :banghead:

Gameguard needs to die. Now. This big anti hack program takes more than it gives.

Any change in SRO = patch + tons of useless server inspections > Less time for me to play > bad > I could really care less.

The only reason you're saying this is because you don't see all the things it prevents. Thanks to gameguard there is only one stable bot, and it's pay-to-use, instead of a few hundred free bots made by second-year computer science majors in their mothers' basements. Thanks to gameguard people can't suck up server slots and bandwidth by running multiple accounts off the same computer simultaneously. And there's no telling how many potential or extant hacks it blocks which might show fake items in an exchange window, show a suited player as unsuited or vice versa, trick people into murder when they think they're attacking a murderer... Not to mention the fact that I've only heard one person actually describe how GG keeps them from playing, they just place the blame where they like.

As for Yohoki's problem, it seems odd that everyone who plays this game runs SERVICES.EXE since we're all on Windows, and yet you're the first one who's mentioned this problem. It might mean the process has been infected by some kind of malware. The fact that your sound doesn't work indicates it could be a problem with sound card or drivers. Scan for viruses and spyware and update your audio drivers and see if you still get this error.

sound card works fine.. i checked for viruses and spy/mal/adware and it allows me to play more... but it still does it...

audio card is fine... it only stops when services.exe is shut off...

and about gameguard helping... bein a hacker myself (not on silkroad cuz i like it) if we want to get around it... we can... it only stops amatuers who use hex editors... the good hackers use DLL Injections and runnables.... some even leach those to the noobie hackers..... so even with gameguard... u cant really stop em...

my idea for stopping hackers is make a server that allows hacking to some degree... but has its own charaters... like so they cant hack hi lvl there then change servers.... just my thought... no one cares tho :P
