This is so not SRO related but I need help some maybe you guys have an idea...

When I run through the Media Center set up I get the error message "tuner not avalible or in use by anouther program". I get this when no other programs are running.

I recently got a new PC and I want to use it as my DVR. It had the TV Tuner and Media Center installed when I bought. I have made no changes to the system with the exception of installing PS, a couple of games and FireFox.

I am running basic cable directly to the back of the PC, no cable box. When I run the dignostic on the Tuner it passes and I can see my TV channels in the diog boxes so I know the tuner is working fine. It is just when I go to Media Center that it does not seem to recognise the signal.

Computer Specs (I have no idea what you need beyond the tuner info)

Processor AMD Phenom(TM)
Processor Speed 2.2GHz
System Bus 2000MHz
Cache Memory 2MB + 2MB at die Level 3
System Memory (RAM)3GB
Type of Memory (RAM)PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive Type Serial ATA (7200 rpm)
Hard Drive Size 640GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Video Memory 256MB (dedicated); up to 1535MB total available graphics memory
Personal Video Recorder (PVR)Yes
TV Tuner PCI Express x1 TV tuner card

If anyone had ANY suggestions, I would love to hear them. I have messed with that stupid set up wizard for Media Center about 50 times trying every different setting, I have moved the cable wire to different ports, manually tried to set it up, BLAHH everything I can think of. :banghead:

Thanks!

Well I guess no one knows =(

I hate new products, you can't find any "fix it" articles. I guess I will try tech support again :banghead: They are soooo helpful.

They keep telling me that it's my cable and I know that is not it since I can see it in the diagnostic program.

Anyone know of any other DVR type programs out there that I can DL a trial on and see if they work?

I can't help you with your problem specifically. But maybe I can point you somewhere that will. Try the forums at http://www.byopvr.com . They might have something there to help you. For my PVR at home instead of MCE I used gbPVR which is an open source PVR system, but it takes a lot of tweaking and is kind of time consuming to set up, but the forums there are also good for general PVR questions so they might be able to help you. http://www.gbpvr.com The Wiki was pretty helpful too for understand how these things generally work.
