I have no new advice to offer. It has been happening to me lately too. Nothing has changed on my PC with the exception of the client.
edit: I don't run SRO fullscreen, maybe I should try that again. Also, settings are at medium, effects too. I run a 7800GT, soon to be 8800GS. We'll see if the new vidcard helps.

My guess is it's something related to video. I don't get it on my main PC which has 128mb video card, but I do on my other PC which is onboard video only and generally only in Hotan where there is the most rendering going on. CPU, RAM amount etc etc are comparable on both systems otherwise. The video card is the only real difference. I don't have any proof for this, just a best guess. Maybe JM screwed something up with drivers with the update. Hope it gets fixed with the update they pushed out last night.
Oh yeah, on the other PC, I turned off pretty much all the graphix settings, even the special effects, names etc etc. Made for one boring looking session, but I didn't get a crash.
