there is no best char to start out with to make money or lvl. To level the fastest go pure INT but you die more then a pure STR or H-INT. I hope this answers your question.

I would argue that the best build to start out - to make money and lvl would be a pure int nuker as they can 2 shot orange mobs with a + nothing weapon on.. and built properly can do amazing things.

In the very very beginning, bows level the fastest. After 30, it's nukers. (Nukers probably don't save much money on MP pots :O)

dont listen to those above. best starting character is bow. u got range, u got speed and u dont get hurt that much. the result is: less money for potions, faster lvl. u can swith at later lvls, when u wanna go another build/weapon.

if you plan to create this as a money or learn character i rather go full int.
from 1 to 30 use a bow after that nuke till you get bored or want to start your real character. wasting money or arrows is not correct you kill faster you get more chance for drops so money should not be your problem.
it is easier to grind and a lot faster to learn stuff (you level faster)
read the sticky topics with the already posted guides
Read as much as you can handle in the guides/char sections especially the sticky topics, that would give you a decent idea on what you want to build.
If you plan to start join redsea and pm me here i will give you a decent start amount of money(this only goes for badpanda08).
