You would be suprised at the amount of parents doing this. And its a good thing in my opinion. Whats the difference from a kid sitting infront of a TV all day. There are some kids in my town that the parents fork out big bucks for their online gaming needs, i guess the way they see it they would rather drop the bucks for computers/virtual gear and have their kids at home then them out running around doing drugs.
Its okay in my book as long as its monitored. Silkroad is not monitored well by GMs so the nasty chat and names are spreading everywhere. I remember when i first played EQ you could get banned for nasty names and global chat.
Even though i think its "okay" to let your kids play 6 hours a day, i wouldn't pass up my childhood of drinking beer, partying, and stealing the occasional car for anything silkroad has to offer =)
