Post subject: Pure INT nuker with five masteries...

After making a few hybrids (because I had no idea about how the game worked) and then two pure STR characters, there was only one thing left to try, and that was the pure INT nuker. I didn't want to follow Biggie's recipe for perfection, though, so this is how I did it.

Pure INT - for magical damage and MP
Spear - for more magic power in attacks
Bow - for ranged attacks
Fire - for pure pain
Lightning - for the nuke (in the future), Must Piercing Force and of course Grass Walk
Cold (in the future) - for the Frost Wall series of physical protection

This is the way I was thinking. Being a pure INT, I'll never have enough HP to be great at PvP up close. So I want as many ranged attacks as possible, and not just the nukes. That's why I chose bow as well. Not as powerful as the spear, but if I max out the increased attack range, the increased attack rating and get the powerful bow skills and add an imbue, they will hurt. So I can start off with a nuke at a distance, then go over to the hard-hitting bow skills, and if the monster/player survives that, I'll cast my Frost Wall for an extra 2500+ HP of damage absorbtion, giving me enough time for another nuke or a spear attack.

I know this will cost me lots and lots and lots of SP, but since killing is lightning fast with a nuker, I think I might be able to do some farming. I am lvl 17 now, with my highest mastery at lvl 15. I won't go over 15 until I get to lvl 21. After that I'll try to maintain the 5 level difference, if I can stand it, until I have at least 7,500 SP, which should be enough to last me a while.

I know I probably won't be able to stand it, but I'll farm for as long as I can possibly put up with it.

Five masteries will allow me to get lvl 60 in all of them. If I ever get above lvl 60 with this character (very unlikely), I'll probably remove the bow skills, unless the maximum masteries increases with the level cap increase.

So...any thoughts on this build? :)

EDIT: I knew there was something I had forgotten. I'm using garment right now, just because at these low levels the difference in protection really isn't big enough to make me consider moving 20% slower and giving up the 20% reduction in mana cost.

this 5 mastery build doesn't seem like a smart plan to me. You REALLY need to do some EXTREME SERIOUS farming for it. Wait till lv 40 + and you'll see. GOOD LUCK

I just have to say I love grinding with a nuker. :D I can kill things that give me 0.2% in one hit (imbue + Soul Spear), which is just awesome. Alright, I only have a two level difference right now, but still. :D

I'm not so sure about that. I'm only getting one or maybe two skills from the Cold series, so that's not a whole lot of skill points invested there. And I'm not investing any point in Cold until lvl 25 or so.

I'm not understanding the point of the spear in the build
You say you want higher magical attack power, but just holding the spear will give you that. My opinion is drop the spear tree. Just use it when you nuke, then switch back to bow.

and btw, my build is almost the exactly the same, cept no weapon skills.. Fire Light Ice.. maybe a little force later.

it doesn't really matter about the skills. 5 lvl 60 masteries require almost 70k (maybe more) SP with 0 skills. The build you're talking about would take over 110k, depending on skils. When a normal 2 element nuker takes 60k, that's a VERY heavy SP investment. To the point where you'd probably have to either do some serious delvling, or keep a 9 lvl difference from lvl 10 to lvl 30 or so.

(Note: My numbers are all estimates..use the SP calculator if you want exact figures)

But you're talking over 60 levels. That's probably two years, maybe three, of playing. I hardly think skill points will be the biggest problem for me...

EDIT: 5 masteries at lvl 60 take 63404 more skill points for me.

More importantly (because I'll never get to lvl 60) - to get all my masteries to lvl 31 at lvl 35, I will need 6404 SP from now on - meaning that I will have to farm 355 SP per level just for the masteries - which isn't a whole lot. Considering I will only be choosing certain skills in the skill tree as well, I don't really see this as a problem.

So you suggest having no attacks until I can get my nuke at level 35? Yeah, that sounds...smart...

There is no way I'm dropping the spear. I'm not even using the bow (won't use it much until I get the Strong Bow or other good, powerful skills), and I've hardly invested any skill points in it yet, because it's just too weak for a pure INT in my opinion. With the spear I can three-hit kill a Chakji Worker (lvl 21) at lvl 17 (imbue - attack - soul spear - whatever the other early attack is called). With the bow I could never kill a Chakji (or a White Tiger for that matter) without being half dead. So the spear is an absolute must (if you don't use Cold to freeze your enemies, which I'm not).

I've decided to drop the bow and just go with the spear, but I'll be adding Force, because I want to be able to resurrect people, use Harmony Therapy and things like that. :)

if you're using that calculator thing, it doesn't factor in individual skills that you choose, and those are 5-7x as much SP as leveling a tree.

I know that, but since I'm only picking a few skills per tree (and not even maxing out a lot of them), I'm not that worried.

Hit lvl 20 today, keeping my masteries at lvl 16 to get more SP. I will keep them three or four levels below my character's level until I reach lvl 30. Then I'll bring them up to 30 so I can get my nukes (I can't wait :D), then I'll let them drop back a few levels again.
