Go protector. It looks cooler and its a nice tradeoff between physical defense, magical defense, and speed bonus.
You don't really need the bonuses of garment, sine you have a TON of MP and pretty good mag def already. And especially at lower levels, there's very little difference between armor and protectors physical defense. So the 10% run speed and mana reduce are still much better than taking an extra 5 or 10 dmg a hit.
However, at higher levels, when you get grasswalk and max mp up, you might want to switch to armor, since things tend to hit MUCH harder. And without enough HP to tank, you need all the defense you can get.

I have tried the three with my full int :
Armor till lvl 29, used garment for Taoists -> lvl 32
And finally, I'm using protector. Very close to the armor in physical def and has a good mag def.
You move faster and you look better (no really the 5th degree armor is just ugly)
But I can't say for levels higher than 36-37.

no actaully armor is the best for int as it reduces hp loss in a int char losing hp is something to worrie about in str charecters garments because you use less mp if you understand

Im pure int and wear garmets vs mobs or pvp and love it. I like garmets alot, but when I start to do serious hunting Ill prob go to proctector, even tho most pvp attacks are magic based......so its almost safe to say that garmet is better even then. Your choice, your char. I love the look of garmet and well if I get owned too easily later on with garmet on Ill go proc....but til then I say garmet.

you got 3 types of clothes right..
3 main builds right....
so it should go
Int=Armor
Hybrid = protector pref but depends on this build
Str=garment
this will benefit all the criteria you could possibly need abouts anyway

Also....In an Int vs Int match the one with garments will win.
They'll get less nuke dmg.

Ok... people say that STR should use garment and int should use prot/armor, i COMPLETELY disagree.. I am of the opinion that EVEYRONE should use garment.
Real life applications:
You spot a thief/merchant that is slightly higher level than you, you know that if you get into melee range he's going to maul the shit out of you in no time flat. But you know that, at best, his grasswalk is even with yours, he is wearing protector or armor. What does this equal out to? He can't even catch you... because you're wearing garment for speed boost, hell, even if his grasswalk is one level higher than yours, he still won't be able to catch you, what this means, is he's dead, and you're running around like a cheetah laughing at him as he lies on the ground.
The run speed is my main reason for always using garment, people will say, yeah but, armor has more melee protection and that's the type of damage all the str users do, but tell me, what good is their added physical attack, when you are firing magic, and they can't even catch you? What's that? The STR is using garment? Well... that's life... either you hope his run is slower than yours(which it probably will be because they focus more on phys, and it definately will be later on unless they gimp their char by going over about 50 lightning). In the end you will always be faster than a STR user whether they wear garment or not(unless they're gimped)... make use of that advantage.. don't let them get anywhere near you.
People in this game often overlook the run speed, but this ends up being VITAL in any pvp situation, unless you're the type to just run up to someone and stand there while they beat you silly.... and if that's the case, go armor, that way when i meet you on the road with your camel you won't be able to catch me OR get away...
My comments might leave you to believe i think str should go armor because they have to run up into melee range, but this isn't completely true, i think a str should have a set of garment and armor, armor for use against other str users, and garment to use against ints.
But either way, if you're an int wearing armor, you're still going to die in melee with an even level str user, so why even try to go toe to toe? knock them down, run... if you think you're going to tank someone just because you have higher physical defense, good luck to you.
Ok so you've chosen to go with garment on your int:
The only characters this leaves you vulnerable to is archers, they deal ranged physical damage, but really, a good archer will almost always beat a caster if he can survive the initial nukes, so even then it doesn't matter what armor you're wearing, so go with the one with the most bonuses, then the only char that can catch/hit you is another int char, and he's probably wearing armor and will get hurt much more by your nukes, than his will hurt you.
SO basically the only player that int/garment gives you weakness to is archers, even at that point you should be able to run out of his range until he gives up on you, and then go back when he's not paying attention!

Nice post, that is exactly the reason why I am currently wearing Protector, I dont expect to 'tank' any hits, and if someone gets a combo off me, I'm pretty much screwed anyways regardless of me wearing Armor or Garment. But I do find that it would be a little more difficult to level in garment because I take so much damage already M aybe once I get to level 50+ I'll switch to garment.

FreedomFighta: All of your statements assume you are in melee range, the ranged snares are nowhere near the range of your nukes, and knockdown require melee range, so there goes your theory, and saying that an int in armor tanks as well as a str in garment, you're completely wrong, even with up to date armor there's no way you can compete with knockdowns/glavies, not only that but if you can't 2 shot your opponent, they are just going to pot that dmg away because you suck so bad in melee range. Like i said previously, they can't snare or knock you down unless that are already WAY too close, and if they are, you aren't playing right.
PVE: I might suggest armor or pro for npcs, but really, the quickest way to level is to fight things you can one shot or 2 shot, so you really should only be taking hits once in awhile... if you nuke properly you'll rarely even get hit, so what's the point, and if you're pvping, you shouldn't be anywhere near your target, period.
These are all MY concepts and what works for me, but it seems to me that the only opinion other people hold is simply a regurgitation of what they've read somewhere else, but i really don't see an int based user ever meleeing unless something has gone severely wrong... And my original char was STR based, until i got my ass beaten by an int that i couldn't even catch to snare... If you're not fast enough skill wise to stay out of melee range, then yes, go with armor or protector. But so far with my pvp experiences on my int based char, i can ALWAYS get away in garment(unless they are like 10+ levels higher), just to come back and harass them again when they aren't paying attention(like when more thieves spawn and they are occupied and already hurt, if i couldn't 2 nuke them before, i sure can if they're already taking damage). And when i hit 60 or so i'll run much faster than any str based unless they decide to gimp their char and go higher than 50 in lightning.
Now when i hit a high level, and it turns out that i can wear armor or pro and still run faster than a str user with lightning at 50, then hell yes, i'll switch it up... just as long as i run fast enough to get distance between me and them for a second round of nuking.

You hate runners because you know if they are faster they will eventually kill you or give up and lose nothing... and the teleport glitch road goes both ways... knockdown is only a 50/50 chance anyways... there's a 50% chance that would do you no good, and i'd be well out of range by the time you jumped again... This is PvP, running faster is not an exploit, it's a skill... it's there for a reason... do you think they intended some players to be faster so that they would stand toe to toe? no. it was intended for MY strategy... and you can whine about how cheap i am as i loot whatever sos you dropped randomly and steal all your camel loot, for all that cash, i'll pretend to feel guilty while i laugh at you behind the screen, as i run off into the sunset with all your precious cargo.
Staying out of range is not easy, it requires a lot of quick mouse work and angle changes, it only takes one mistake for a STR to catch you, but that's where player skill comes into play. If you want something that stands there while you kill them, stick to PvE, because a good player will use every advantage to tag your ass.

if ure pure int u go armor, heres some reasons
pvm
-eatting mana is onli gold, gold is less important than ure constant 2% exp loss, even if garment makes u die an extra few time a lvl is not worth it
-nukers dont need to run that much unlike pure str that runs from monster to monster so speed is not such a major factor
pvp
-without armor same lvl pure str will eat thru ure hp even if u pot
-against pure ints no matter wat u wear at higher lvls u 1hit each other,
garment might give u huge mag def but 1hit from same lvl nuker starting from 2nd book nukes still kills

Flying Dragon. You don't need to STAY in range, just bein range when they throw it. And the windup time on a nuke is ridiculous. In the time it takes to take out most of a pure STRs health, he can get into range and FD. Since he'll probably be in garment himself, odds are you wont OHK kill him. Before you can charge back up, he'll have potted back to full health. However, with so little HP, if he's been leveling FD, you're dead if he crits.

If you wear armor you will go through more mana potions. If you wear garmet you will go through more health potions. If you wear protector well that is obivously the medium. One thing that I haven't had explained to me, however, I use garmet because of it, is... Magic Reinforcement. I believe this actually slightly improves my magic damage. If you are like me you are also almost constantly using magic and never fighting without it, thus wearing the armor intended for a magic user just seems right to me. There is the rare occassion though when it would be nice to have armor on. As we have few hp, when forced to fight monsters that hit for more than 200 damage wearing armor might help. I keep a set or armor and protector in storage, although I never wear it. Another thing I notice is that I zap stuff with lion shout then I hit them with a soul spear and fire imbue, they never get a chance to swing at me anyway.

for pure int, garment is good. none of the BS about armor having high physical defence, the point is.. for nukers to level.. WE NUKERS DO 1 HIT KO or hit HITS... instant kill... so you want to save as much mana as possible and run away fast too, armor doens't do as well when you can kill the monster in one hit... and no bonus mana consumption or speed for movements.

i used to use garment, until i was at black robber archers n got raped by 4 of them, so i switched to protector and i luved every minute of it. Yah u run slower and u only get 10% reduce, so wut?
Didn't try armor yet, seriously, the only armor dat interests me is the pegesus armor, all the other ones r ugly as hell. I say protector
