is there a certain amount of sp i should have by lvl 10? and what monsters should i be fighting im at lvl 9

There is no set SP ammount that you will ever need. Use the stickied SP calculator, pick your type of build, punch it into the calculator and find out how much SP you will need. You can then take your pick at how to farm that ammount. The three most popular are farm some from level 1-20 then finish farming at level 40 at the black bandit archers, get all your sp at level 1-20 by grinding like no other (Korean way), and just leaving a 4-5 level mastery gap throughout the whole game and not farming at all.
