^Blender is probably the most straightforward one, you just place vertices and make faces. There aren't as many different tools as in 3ds Max for example. There have been some times where I have wanted some tools to make things easier but I have managed with Blender. I might start using Cinema 4d or 3ds Max for some other stuff, but for SRO, Blender is enough imo. I also tried importing the same sword to Skyrim following a tutorial, but it ended up being completely black ingame and then I wanted to add a SRO armor to Skyrim(had to remodel the armor because of differences in the default position for the char model), also followed a tutorial, but the armor was invisible ingame. >.> That was frustrating so I put it aside for a while. Though I do want to finish the custom weapons for the pserver, but what's slowing me down are the textures. Making them from scratch is a pain and I still have no real idea what colors I'm going to use and stuff.
I remember back in my day Fly was saying "we got thousands of dollars of donations, we can run this server for 3 years with the first month's money"
He was obviously exaggerating. It closed due to lack of funds and lack of population. And that happened because Fly seemed not to give a flying fuck about the server anymore. Updates weren't that consistant anymore, weekly server inspection weren't consistant, he didn't even finish that Hotan update, instant cap... He made a lot of mistake near the end of Salvation.

Gw2 killed Salvation the first time around. Fly knew it was coming up, and while I have no proof of this, I'd bet that he intentionally let Salvation die. So that he could focus on GW2.

Now that the honeymoon phase with GW2 is over I bet he regrets that. If I had to be honest, I don't think GW2 lived up to anyone's expectations, it definitely didn't, and still doesn't, live up to mine.

I clocked in like 300-400 hours, but now I'm completely bored with it, waiting for them to fix what's broken, stop going the gear treadmill route, adjust legendary weapons to actually be "legendary" and not just a grindfest, fix WvW, and more content. Fractals was fun for maybe the first two weeks, now it's just another mundane activity and boring grindfest.

i doubt even if 30 ppl from srf said they would play the game it would matter, because 30+ people isnt going to run a server
And yea the worst part about salvation was probably the community, which basically sucked out any chance of competition and led to people quitting due to boredom. The thieving community was awesome though, but very small and weak

I agree with this. But this goes for any private server out there. Far too often people take the "easy" route by hoping on whatever bandwagon is available, without taking into account that their actions can have a negative impact on the entire server.
It was for the sake of competition that I;
1. Lost FW. I refused to join one of the two unions that were running. Since the server had never had 3 solid unions before, I figured I'd try to create three. Which is why Synergy joined BGH union. When we could've just as easily joined Infensus, or at the time, SD's union. Synergy was never supposed to take a fort, but we did quite easily, much to my surprise. After we won the fort, had several guilds ask to join union, I turned them all down since that'd mean only having two unions again, and that was the last thing I wanted. So, of course, next FW everyone and their mother showed up to fight against us at FW. Naturally, we lost. But if I could go back, I wouldn't have done it differently.
2. Went thief. I started on the server as a trader, switched to hunter, hit level 7 hunter with Corrupt weeks before anyone else did. But once everyone started going hunter/trader, the job conflict lost it's appeal. So I went thief, and ended up usually having to fight like 5v20. RR's and ress scrolls ruined any chance of "skill" playing a determining factor in job PvP.
Tl;dr
Don't bandwagon. Join the underdogs. And you'll have an amazing server filled with awesome competition. Each player has a responsibility to do this. Lest we all die of boredom.

In order to avoid the jobbing bandwagon should be possible to just add some stored procedure that checks the amount of traders/hunters and thieves and doesn't allow you to join the majority if the percentage gap is too great. But I have no idea how to make the procedure work with the server and the client so yeah.

Only problem with that idea is that players who go inactive will still influence the ratio of it. Causing an imbalance. IMO, it's easier/better to have the players themselves balance it out amongst themselves.

It is possible, the new job system tracks the amount of players in each job, and say thieves are at 51% and hunters 49%, you can't join the thief guild. Finding out how to incorporate that into the older job system though, good luck. The easiest way would be modifying the new job system to reward gold, but I don't think even Myth figured that one out.

In the end the community makes the game, not the content, the content is what keeps the community striving towards something together for X amount of time
